Hi,

My name is Suada, I was born in Kosova and came to Australia for a better future with my mother, father and twin brother. Despite what happen in the past, I’m a very positive person who dreams of becoming a high school Design and ESL teacher as I plan to teach the next generation on social problems and ways to overcame them. Especially ones which involve the environment as I think that nothing is more beautiful than a piece of land that hasn’t been destroyed by something that society has created.

I wouldn’t say I have a home, as home to me isn’t a place but where those I cherish most are and as long as they are with me then I’m home.

And that about me.

:) Suada

Hiya, my name is Maria, I'm (almost) 22 years old studying a visual communication design degree. This is my second time around with uni, as I graduated from a bachelor of marketing in 2013.

I'm of Australian, English and Italian descent and I've spent many years travelling between these countries. I spent the first 10 years of my life living in London, til my family packed up and moved here to lil ol' Adelaide. I found assimilating from English to Australian culture quite easy, loved how Aussies said hello to each other on the street and shortened basically any word in the dictionary. My grandparents on both sides are from Italy, so I've been raised amongst their wholesome culture, speaking odd Italian dialects that I'm sure modern-day Italians would find laughable.

I like what you said Suada about how you feel at home with the people you cherish. I think the same goes with me.

Hello,

My name is Chloe and I'm a second year Visual Arts student. I moved to Adelaide in 2015 from a small rural town in country SA. Basically everyone knows everyone and the land has been lived on by many generations of family farmers. My parents divorced when my sisters and I were quite young. They separated to either side of the Goyders line approximately 60km apart, and as children we would go back and forth.

'Goyders Line' divides the land of high rainfall, which is well suited for cropping and the land which is suitable for grazing, where there is hardly any rain and more desert like.

My family has been in Australia for 5 generations and settled from England, Scotland and Ireland, I have never been overseas and hope to one day explore more of what the world has to offer.

I am looking forward to what this class has to teach about Indigenous cultures. Furthermore, how the art and design that is created in different areas speaks for itself and how the environment and surrounds plays part in what is and was created.

I tend to struggle with new things and being in an online course for the first time is one of them, however i will do my best to keep up.

I'm not sure what type of background i have, i do know that i am part Malaysian, but you'd never be able to tell looking at me. I'm fairly certain i am part Russian/Ukrainian as well, (Eastern European).

I live in Goolwa, it's fairly cold, being winter. It's also very beautiful, lush with fresh grass and very little traffic. The air is always fresh and the stars bright!
It takes me about 2 hours to get down to the city to study for my degree, i'm full time and i'm luckily able to live with my auntie while i study down in Adelaide.

I'm not a very social person and i like being alone, night time is usually the best time for me to work and for my creativity to "awaken"

I've never really had a "true" home and all my life i have moved from place to place.

Hi I'm 20 and was born in South Australia and have lived here my whole life with my parents and siblings; two younger sisters and a younger brother. I'm doing Bachelor in Visual Arts in order to learn what my artistic style is because I want to be an artist. I'm also doing a Diploma in Language in Japanese because I really love the language and culture. I'm hoping to someday live in Japan for a few months.

I think my mum's side of the family is mainly British, but I'm unsure how much because I know nothing about my mum's dad only his first name and that he cheated on my grandmother so they split up when my mum was very young. Then my dad's side also has some British. I'm told my dad's mum is part Ukrainian, but growing up we never learnt anything about Ukrainian culture from her and I'm not sure why. Then my dad's parents also divorced and my granddad remarried to my grannie who is Scottish and I love her accent (the family has teased her a bunch of times about how she pronounces words and we all laugh about it including her). This was when my dad was a teenager.

Since both my parents had parents who divorced they didn't ever want to do that to us. They also both grew up in households where they couldn't always afford things and so they wanted to give me and my siblings a better life than theirs.

Anyway I hope my self introduction covered the basics. Thank you for reading it!

I was born in Taiwan.
My family immigrated to Australia when I was 10.
I have lived in Australia doubled the time I had in Taiwan.
Adelaide was the longest place I have ever lived since coming to Australia. We have moved a few time from NSW to SA before we are fully settled and gained our Permanent residence in Adelaide.

I agree with what Suada said about home - being with people that you love and cherish.

Though I lived in Australia longer than Taiwan, when it comes to defining my cultural identity, I think I would still recognise myself as a Taiwanese. My parents don't speak very well English but they think it is important for us to keep some of the cultural values and practices. So I think I am still very much of a 'Chinese' inside me. Without them, I will not be who I am.

I'm currently studying Bachelor of Visual Arts.
The course was quite different to what i had expected when it comes to studying theory. I struggled at first, but looking at it from the perspective of getting to know the past in order to know how we got here made it interesting and not as hard to understand. We now live in a global world, a diverse culture, and an environment that somehow made us all connected in some way.
So I look forward to gain a better understanding of the Indigenous culture.

I'm 24 years old. I've lived in 4 different states (QLD, VIC, SA, WA), I am 1 of 11. I have 3 immediate siblings, all of which are older than me and 7 step-siblings, 4 of which I grew up with from the age of 13. My parents separated when I was 3 after we moved from Charleville in the middle of Queensland to Brisbane. My Step-siblings are of TI, Aboriginal and Chinese descent, my Step-Dad has a Chinese mother and had a Torres Strait Islander father. My relatives are from all over the world, Japan, Kenya, Spain, China. Which means our feasts are amazing. I look incredibly Irish and both of my grandmother's loved it (not in a racist way haha just apparently in Irish celtic beauty standards). I have incredibly translucent skin, hazel eyes and deceptively thick wild dark hair.

I am of predominately Irish descent with English, Prussian and Scandi influences. I was brought up with Grandparents that really enjoyed Irish Celtic history, along with it's influences on music (fiddle, pipes, pretty much Lord of the Rings sounding music), Tolkien, 'Irish dancing', food/feasts, fancy alcohol, talking heaps and laughter.

I guess home to me at the moment is Adelaide, my boyfriend lives here and I feel very calm and safe.

Thanks for reading.

Hello all. My names Merridy Brown. I've only lived in South Australia however I have travelled a bit for enjoyment. I find home where I most visit often - so i'd claim the house I keep all my belongings in. I do feel completely comfortable in the nature on camping trips also. I shock myself on how comfortable i can be while travelling overseas with a simple bag on my back but i would not consider that to be home. Australia is my home, more specifically Adelaide. It is where i grew up and where i intend to stay - or come back to after adventures.
