I agree that the learning of Te Reo Maori should be compulsory but must also have limitations. For example ; Maori must learn the language until it has become evident that they can hold a fairly decent conversation in Maori. They must also show that they have an understanding of who they are, where they're from and the important history of Maori in the past.

This will not be compulsory only to Maori. I believe that Compulsory learning of Te Reo Maori should also be New Zealand Europeans and Kiwi's. However the level that these people have to learn, won't have to be as high as the Maori learners. They must know how to have a quick conversation in Maori but do not have to go so far in depth.

If we were to make it compulsory for other cultures and non-maori to learn the language and also about the whakapapa, this could change the way other ethnicities see the maori population. It could give non-maori the opportunity to see affairs from a different perspective. The importance of Maori holidays would be greatly acknowledged because the population of New Zealand will have an insight on the reasoning of these holidays and why they exist. This can include holidays like Waitingi Day, Parehaka Day, Matariki and etc.
