In 1959, Fidel Castro took over Cuba. He wanted it to become a powerful country, so he started implementing many new things. Some of these were turning his government into a communistic one and becoming friends with the Soviet Union. The U.S. didn't like the direction Cuba was going. This was during the cold war so the U.S. was trying to stomp out anything communistic. They decided to invade Cuba. They sent many different millitary people but it all went wrong. It was an unsuccesful invasion. This was called the Bay of Pigs and it happened on April 17, 1961. After this event, the U.S. stopped trading with Cuba.
Another thing that happened between the U.S. and Cuba was the Cuban Missile Crisis. According to this article by Mike Kubic, "In the fall of 1962, Soviet troops began placing in Cuba medium-range nuclear missiles capable of reaching American cities as far as Washington." This greatly scared the U.S. Eventually, the Soviet Union took the weapons back. It was a relief and the U.S. started trading with Cuba again. These are a lot of events that happened between the U.S. and Cuba.

Although he did some awful things, the country needed him. In some ways he had made Cuba powerful and populous.
