Heat transfer is when is the flow of thermal energy leaves a hot object using radiation, conduction or convection to distribute heat. An example of conduction is touching the stove and getting burned. An example of convection is a hot air balloon rising. An example of radiation is getting sunburned by the sun in a hot summer day.

Insulators are substances that do not allow the passage of heat or electricity. Insulators are basically the opposite of conductors as insulators do not conduct electricity. Examples of insulators include Wood, Rubber, Plastics, Ceramics, Air, Styrofoam, Wool, Cotton, Aluminum, Fiberglass.

The initial weight of the penguin was 5.0 grams. Then after being inside for 15 minutes it went to 3.4 grams and lost 36% of its mass. Our thought process of building the protection was putting the ice cube in a Dixie cup on top of some cotton balls and then wrapping everything around in tin foil. We thought that wrapping the cup in tin foil would stop it from melting.

For our 2nd design, we decided to just add more Mylar around the cup. We had 0 money left so we were going from table to table trying to get their leftover materials. We managed to get a yellow piece of fabric and some more tape to wrap the cup with Mylar. We were ready to test and the penguin had a mass of 5 grams. It then dropped to a mass of 3.8. This means it went down 24 percent. We improved but we still could have done better.

After talking our group decided that we should have bought more insulators. We thought that we should have gotten wooden sticks and more cotton balls. Another thing we should have done is not spend all of our money for the first build. We should have tested our design and then bought stuff to improve it.
