One reason for the ethics study is that ethics is inevitable. It is superb difficult, if not impossible, to conceive a society where there are no codes of conduct or ways to assess what is desirable, healthy, undesirable or unhealthy. Even if such codes are considered to be merely a means of survival, there are still implicit obligations with regard to what is good or bad: food and water are easy for people, the deprivation of either would cause harm and solutions. If you do not study morality, you will not have the opportunity to think carefully about the values that shape your life, to think whether the values in your society are wise or foolish, nor to raise your awareness of the values of others.

The ethics study should also develop skills in determining your values, provide others with the reasons for your actions and provide means to question the values of others.
