WICOR in Action: Reflection and Growth by

Throughout this semester, we've explored the WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) as tools to enhance your learning. Now, it's time to reflect on your personal application of these strategies.Self-Assessment and Justification: 1. Choose one WICOR strategy that you've focused on this semester. On a scale of 1-5 (as described below), rate your personal use of that strategy.1: Not Implemented2: Minimal Implementation3: Developing Implementation4: Consistent Implementation5: Consistently Effective ImplementationProvide a detailed explanation of why you chose that rating. Include specific examples from your work or classroom experiences to support your assessment. 2. Based on your self-assessment, identify one specific area where you could improve your use of the chosen WICOR strategy.Outline a concrete plan of action for how you will implement this improvement in the future.

Sample Response: At the beginning of the semester, my notebook was a total mess. Papers shoved in randomly, notes scattered, and I could never find anything. I'd miss assignments because I lost the handouts, and studying for tests was a nightmare. I started using a binder with dividers for each subject, and that's helped a little. I also tried to use a planner to keep track of deadlines, but I'm not always consistent about writing everything down.

For example, when we did the research project on the Civil War, I initially lost some of my research notes. Then I found them, but they weren't organized by topic, so I wasted a lot of time trying to piece everything together. This led to a lower grade on the first draft of the project. One specific area I need to improve is consistently using my planner and digital tools. I plan to set aside five minutes at the end of each class period to write down assignments and deadlines in my planner. I will also set daily reminders on my phone to check my planner. To measure if this is working, I will track the number of assignments I submit on time and compare it to previous weeks. I will also ask my teacher for feedback on my organizational skills during our next conference.

Throughout the whole school year, I've become more aware of the importance of asking questions and looking for deeper understanding, but I haven't fully used inquiry into my learning process. Initially, I accept information at value, without challenges or looking for alternative perspectives. For example, during science class, I relied Mostly on the textbook's interpretation without considering other viewpoints or sources.

This quarter, I have focused on my organization skills. I would rate my use of it as a 3 or 4. I chose that rating because I think I keep most of my school work and notes organized but sometimes my stuff can get messy. For example, in World Culture, I didn't have my notebook, so I wrote the notes on paper and put them in my binder under my World Culture section. After class, I added the notes into my notebook. Even though I didn't have the notebook earlier, I still took notes and participated in class. To implement more organization in the future, I can make sure I am prepared for class with all of my materials.

One wicor strat I focused on in this year is Collaboration. I like working together with my classmates, as it is a faster process for all of us. I am not sure of what Wicor strategies I can develop in.
