         <description><![CDATA[<p>Using Strategies that Appear in All Types of Lessons:</p><p><br/></p><ul><li><p>There are strategies that appear in the three types of lessons: (1) direct instruction lessons, (2) practicing and deepening lessons, and (3) knowledge application lessons. </p></li><li><p>Previewing content provides students with an opportunity to begin activate their prior learning and start building connections</p></li><li><p>Activating students prior knowledge can help solidify the transfer of learning process</p></li><li><p>Highlighting important information can guide students on key takeaways ensuring they are grasping the content</p></li><li><p>When reviewing information students are provided an additional opportunity to recall the content, relearn it in a new way that solidifies their understanding</p></li><li><p>Cumulative reviews can be conducted throughout the school year so that students knowledge is being "refreshed"</p></li><li><p>Revision steps: (1) review your knowledge, (2) identify and correct any mistakes, (3) identify and fill gaps, (4) decide where to amend prior knowledge, and (5) explain your reasons</p></li><li><p>Exit slips are great opportunities for formative assessments - ask questions like (1) what could you do differently to improve your work? and (2) what could you do differently to improve your learning? </p></li><li><p>Homework can be used by teachers to preview student knowledge and understanding </p></li><li><p>"Educators should view learning as a constructive process in which students constantly update their knowledge"</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Providing and Communicating Clear Learning Goals:</p><p><br></p><ul><li><p>Students that understand what they will be learning during a lesson will be better able to assess their understanding/mastery and how they can improve</p></li><li><p>Teachers should provide rubrics and scales to students so that they can understand their level of proficiency </p></li><li><p>Proficiency scale can help students achieve their learning goals</p></li><li><p>Teachers can prompt students to rewrite the proficiency scales to language they best understand</p></li><li><p>Students that are able to explain the proficiency scale, explain the learning goal, and describe how activities relate to the target goal will demonstrate their understanding of this element </p></li><li><p>When tracking student proficiency, ensure student success is being celebrated</p></li><li><p>Teachers must PLAN and ensure they are thoughtfully considering how students can achieve mastery in the standard/content</p></li></ul>]]></description>
