This is a good article because it discuses how students are affected by technology. This is good because we are now given technology in school. I used this to improve my credibility by showing how technology is affecting more than just our hearing but as well as our eyesight. Some of my other article on here are for that purpose as well like sleep, and health and technology. Just like the article on sleep, I also used this article to compare how different affects of technology play into the role of our hearing and our daily lives.
https://www.aoa.org/newsroom/the-21st-century-child-increased-technology-use-may-lead-to-future-eye-health-and-vision-issues

As teenagers we already don't get much sleep and technology is also a factor in that reason. It also affects our cognitive abilities to do work and stay focused. I used these articles because just like technology affects our sleep, it can also affect our hearing; I used this website because I was trying to find a correlation in which how technology affects on the different parts of our body and all have the same affect. New studies show that sleep deprivation has been linked to hearing loss.
https://www.sleephealthfoundation.org.au/public-information/fact-sheets-a-z/802-technology-sleep.html

https://www.hear-it.org/sleep-apnea-can-cause-hearing-loss

This is a good reference because it talks about how people need to pay attention to who loud their music is because it is affecting their ears especially due to the technology of earbuds that are becoming louder and smaller and putting major strain on our ears. This article was really useful because I learned that our ears have tiny hairs on them that catch sound waves so we can interpret them and words or a noise. As we get older or as we listen to excessively loud music, these hairs bend down and decay, once these hairs are gone... so is your hearing.
https://hpoal.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/on-the-rise-teens-with-hearing-loss/

It told me a lot about the different types of hearing loss and the difference between the temporary and permeant damage that we see. One usually will have a threshold point where they feel their hearing is damaged but after a few hours it goes back to 'normal'. If you listen to loud music for a long period of time this can happen to you and eventually when your hearing will slowly stop going back to 'normal'. due to the fact that this happens so gradually, it can be hard to notice the difference in hearing.
http://kidshealth.org/en/kids/rock-music.html

Hearing loss is the third most common health problem in the United States. Twenty two million Americans are exposed to harsh noises everyday. The youth of this generation have become so accustomed to loud noises such as attending concerts, using earbuds on high volume, or even blaring music in their car, that they don’t take the time to sit and think about what is really happening inside their ears as they listen, which leaves the youth of this generation at an increased risk of losing more of their hearing at a younger age than normal. 5.2 million teenagers, ages 12 to 19, are reported to have Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) in the United States alone. Decibels are a unit of measurement used to determine the intensity and the power level of sounds. Sounds under 75 decibels are very unlikely to cause hearing problems even if it is for a prolonged period of time however, NIHL occurs from the short or long exposure to a sound that is over 85 decibels loud.

I put them as my target audience because of the fact that in todays society, teenagers love to listen to things on high volume. With technology becoming more advanced, teenagers are becoming more and more accustomed to listening to things on a higher volume. Some of this advanced technology includes: power tools, live concerts, subs in cars, loud engines, earbuds or headphones on higher volume. I used this website article, "There Are Scientific Reasons Your Teen Loves Loud Music". I uses this website article to help understand why so many teens like to listen to loud music and to support my reasoning my target audience being who I chose. in the last decade hearing loss in teens has gone up 30%!

-all genders, races, and socio-economic status
-ages 12-19
-St.Cloud MN community
