The first layer is the crust. This is where we live. It is the thinnest layer, only about 5 kilometers under the oceans, and about 30 kilometers.
Between the crust and the mantle, there is a cross section, which is called the lithosphere and athenosphere. The lithosphere is made up of the very slowly moving tectonic plates. The asthenosphere is where the plates move. This layer is somewhat liquid.
