We use suspension and expulsion as a disciplinary way to stop bad behavior. Programs continue to expel and suspend people because it keeps the bad behavior out of the classroom, even if it doesn't fix it.

It is powerful when you suspend/expel someone and I think that is something that can increase the use of that practice. Teachers may feel powerless and this is their way of showing power.

The idea of suspension and explosion is, in theory, to act as a punishment for unacceptable behavior in schools. By having actions such as these, schools can threaten students who rebel against the rules.
I believe programs expel and suspend students because it is what they have always done. These should be used as a final straw, not the immediate reaction to behavioral issues
