CAPTION FORMULA:

1. Lead in with a mini header- a catchy phrase that draws the reader in

2. Identifying sentence- in present tense that tells what is happening in the picture and who is in the picuture

3. Secondary Intro sentence- this gives additional info about the context and background of the picture. This is in past tense.

The idea of Verbal and Visual Design is to capture your viewers when they see your page. Whether it be a pull quote, infographic, photos, words, etc. The point is to get our readers to consume our content and ideas. Verbal and Visual Design are MAJOR entry points. The more we have, the more we can get readers to focus on our content. It's best to start with a theme. Since we are a News Magazine, we have the in-depth, but a theme to carry on onto every page to echo our theme is how we want to go about cohesiveness and consistent. This is how we establish our voice through design.

• Establish the voice (Bold, Playful, Whimsical, Sad, Serious, LITERAL, etc).

• It's good to take a lot of inspo. and make something into your own for design !

• We want it to be intentional. All the design should be intentional and should echo a voice, something that also could correlate with our story or "theme"

• For designs, it's okay to take things literal. For headings as well. Whatever the story is about, designs can be quite literal.

• FONTS: we want our fonts to be easy to read. We got critiqued on it but I think that keeping that in mind, we could be more creative with it while staying consistent and legible.

A direct comparison of two fried chicken, fast food restaurants that have similar meals. I want to poll students and get their opinions about what place is best. This would just be a fun article that most students debate.

I have heard from leadership that they are planning to do the popular soak a senior trend off of TikTok. They are going to be asking for canned for donations or for money to go towards meals for families in need for Thanksgiving. This could be a fun brief that could incorporate video media.

He mentioned a technique called YOSO (You Only Shoot Once). Its better to have filmed a lot rather than not having enough b-roll for your videos. He also shared with us his WALLDO technique. Which are a bunch of angles tht could imporve the look of our videos, (Wide, Angle, Low, Linking, Depth, Opposite). Be prepared: know your topic and angle have focus on your statement
