The transistor enabled small electronic devices. Computers went from being large as rooms to fit into our knees. The modern society is built on computers, they are everywhere and billions and billions of people use them every day. The transistor made this progress possible.

The transistor changes the voltage in electronic circuits. The electronic devices existing today wouldn't work if the voltage in the circuits were as high as in our plugs. We still need that high voltage to sustain all the electronics in our houses so that is why the transistor is so important, without it we wouldnt be able to use our electronics!

Before the transistor entered the market it already existed products with the same function as the transistor. These products were big and it led to big electronic devices. In 1923 the first transistor entered the market, it was build and patented by the physicist Julius Edgar Lilienfeld. But it was not until the 1960s it became the major player in its business. As said before it enabled small electronic devices that could be used in our daily lifes such as mobile phones, computers, clocks, television, speakers etc.
