Your family can influence your behavior in many ways. "The effect of the hardship depends on the way it affects daily life" (Mental, Emotional & Social Health part 1 Section 1). If your family is stressed about going into debt, it may cause you act angrily or you may become way too conscious about your money, and you may not know if something affected you. If your parents closely monitor you and who you spend time with, you're more likely to stay away from peers with bad habits.

The people you choose to include in your life play a powerful role in how you act. "It is the dominant individuals who seem to be the most influential, particularly with regard to high-risk behaviors" (Mental, Emotional & Social Health part 1 Section 1). If your friends treat you poorly and you consider them bullies, you may start to act more like them. If they do drugs and other high-risk behaviors, you're more likely to adopt those behaviors.

My parents are in lots of debt, and have been for several years. Even though they have no problem spending lots of money on themselves, they actually limit their money on me. I had been asking for a better computer for many years but they refused, even for birthdays and Christmas. Even when they finally let me get one, they limited their price still, so I had to limit and lower my specs on my computer just so they didn't get mad. I'll never understand why they spend as much as they do but when I ask for something, they suddenly realize that they're in debt, and it makes me angry because it's so unfair.
