In 1967, OCLC was founded in Ohio by a small group of librarians who believed that by working together, they could find practical solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems. OCLC has had five presidents since its start. First president is Frederick G. Kilgour was President and Chief Executive Officer from 1967 to 1980 and retired from the OCLC Board of Trustees in February 1995 after having served as Permanent Founder Trustee since 1980. The second presidents is Rowland C. W. Brown was President and CEO of OCLC from 1980 to 1989. The third president of OCLC is Dr. K. Wayne Smith was President and CEO of OCLC from 1989 through April 1998. Next, Jay Jordan was President and CEO from May 1998 to 2013 and now the president of OCLC is Skip Prichard became President and CEO in July 2013 until present. National Association:

Members of the National Association are limited to nationally focused associations, which means they have members from anywhere in their country and support industry across the country. This category also includes associations of subject matter experts that operate throughout the country. Each of the 12 fee segments has voting rights and corresponding partial allocations. All members of the National Association can register free of charge in the Management Department of the Library Association (MLAS) and, if applicable, in the corresponding regional department.

International Association:

The members of International Association must operate within the framework of transnational or international information services and libraries. The membership fees of the International Association are divided into three levels, depending on the country of residence of the majority of the members of the Association. In addition to automatic registration in the Management Section of the Library Association, members of the International Association can also register for four professional branches for free. They have the right to exercise five votes.

Other associations:

Other association members include any association that does not fall into the category of international associations or national associations. Its main goal is to allow subnational associations (ie provinces/states) to join IFLA. Other associations have two votes. In addition to automatic registration in the Management Section of the Library Association, they can also join two sections for free.

Association Affiliates:

Association Affiliates is a category open to associations of librarians who have not become IFLA members in the last three years and whose running costs are less than 10,000 euros. Members of the association will register free of charge with the Library Association Management Department (MLAS) and, where appropriate, with the corresponding regional department. The affiliated bodies of the association do not have the right to vote. You can join IFLA in this category for two consecutive years, after which the member will be promoted to the appropriate category and will pay the corresponding fees and benefits.

Individual Affiliates:

Individual Affiliates are individuals who wish to express their interest and support for the professional purposes and activities of IFLA.

Student Affiliate:

Student Affiliate refers to individuals who can provide proof of the currently enrolled course. These students can earn entry-level professional qualifications in library science or information work. Incentive programs for recent graduates in the field of libraries and information sciences. Within the first two years after graduation, library and information science graduates are eligible to receive IFLA membership at student fees. A certificate of diploma is required to apply for membership under this award.

The Section brings together libraries and institutions interested in the development and availability of library services designed to meet the needs of cultural and linguistic minorities.

The Section is striving to share its experience in library services to multicultural populations in view of the necessity to ensure that every member in our global society has access to a full range of library and information services. In order to achieve this, it promotes international cooperation in this field.

Library Services to People with Special Needs Section

The Section for Library Services to People with Special Needs provides an international forum for the discussion of ideas, sharing of experiences and development of tools designed to promote and improve the effectiveness of library and information services to special needs groups, and the promotion of national and international cooperation at all levels.

These groups include, but are not limited to, people who are in hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities; people in prisons; people who are experiencing homelessness; people with physical disabilities; people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind; people with dyslexia; and people with cognitive and mental disabilities.

IFLA has partnered with various publishers to produce printed publications to address the problems faced by various libraries regarding book publishing over the years. Access to information can help achieve the selected sustainable development goals in the following ways:

Help end hunger and promote nutrition

The goal of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) is to "eliminate hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture" (United Nations, 2015 year). Eradicating hunger and all forms of malnutrition cannot simply focus on increasing crop yields. Attention must also be paid to improving the quality and nutritional value of food, increasing the income of small farmers, empowering women, supporting the resilience of ecosystems to climate change, maintaining genetic diversity and improving everyone’s access to healthy food. These key components of eradicating hunger are described in the sub-goals of Sustainable Development Goal 2.

Currently, there are approximately 570 million farms in 161 countries. Of these, 13% are in low-income countries and 36% are in low- and middle-income countries. Farms of less than 2 hectares account for 12% of the world's agricultural land, and family farms account for 75% of the world's agricultural land (Lowder et al., 2016). 43% of the agricultural labor force in underdeveloped countries is made up of women (FAO, 2012). In order to achieve sustainable agriculture and Sustainable Development Goal 2, smallholder farmers, especially women, and low- and middle-income farmers
must be able to access, analyze, and apply information to their production systems. Improving farmers' access to information increases the likelihood of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 and its subgoals.

Open data is essential to improve farmers' access to information. The Global. Open Data on Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) initiative advocates for the active sharing of open data so that information on agriculture and nutrition is available, accessible and available. GODAN and its network of more than 500 partners who also advocate for open data believe that open data in agriculture and nutrition is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG2. There are two aspects to making SDG2 open data a reality: 1) Farmers need open data and access to modern agricultural information.

Help ensure healthy lives and promote well-being

It is difficult to distinguish the health benefits of A2I from the broader social, cultural, and economic benefits. Fundamentally, A2I helps create and maintain stable, transparent and accountable societies in which basic human rights to health and well-being are more likely to be recognized. Driven by A2I, improved education has promoted economic development. If the latter is managed responsibly, taking into account long-term sustainability and the fair distribution of economic benefits, the social and structural conditions for a healthy society will be created. Clean water, access to healthy nutrition, security, shelter - all this has a profound impact on health and well-being, and A2I can play a critical role in all aspects. But there are some more specific health benefits stemming from A2I and the libraries, and it's worth paying attention to what they are and how to maximize them.

Quality education and lifelong learning for all – A focus on people

Access to information is the key to success here. To paraphrase Paulo Freire's words, when people cannot read the text or the world, not only can they not change their lives or the situation at the national level, but they also cannot obtain information and knowledge about the issues they can fight for. Global level. It is true that at the government level, the need to collect reliable data and information is attached great importance to as a "decision key" to support the implementation of the agenda. This includes collecting data and information from existing reporting mechanisms, developing new data collection methods, and "striving to strengthen the statistical capacity of developing countries." The importance of UNESCO is highlighted by an interview with Jaroslava Moserova, president of the General Conference in 1999, who was convinced of the role that the organization could play in a post-Cold War world. She said in the interview that “The aim of UNESCO is to improve the quality of life. It is not a political organization at all but the main pillar of UNESCO is education, access to education. The delegates from different parts of the world, different cultures, different traditions, there is one thing all of them agree on, and that is that the only tool for better or worse is education.” The note Moserova made when acknowledging that education is an indispensable tool is only one of the ways to see the importance of UNESCO.

The Information for All Programme of UNESCO tackles disinformation through impactful projects that promote access to information and digital literacy.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has so vividly shown, access to information has the potential to save lives. This health crisis has underlined how media and information literacy can address surges in disinformation. It has highlighted the importance of making reliable information readily available in multiple languages, including indigenous languages. The information for all programmes of UNESCO (IFAP) deals with all these issues. It aims to build inclusive knowledge societies, where technological progress and digital opportunities are part of everyone’s daily lives. As UNESCO is establishing cross-cutting strategic objectives to guide its actions over the next eight years, IFAP must act as an enabler for the Organization’s communication and information priorities, working in a transversal manner to contribute to UNESCO’s assistance to Member States in achieving the SDGs, underlined the IFAP Chair. To better serve Member States’ needs and guided by the IFAP Bureau, IFAP Secretary Ms. Marielza Oliveira is strengthening and standardizing IFAP’s internal processes, increasing the programmes effectiveness, efficiency and outreach.

UNESCO and the Republic of Serbia help people have fuller advantage of information flows

As Internet use and access to information continue to rise at a rapid rate, so does the amount of beneficial and harmful content. The concerns are dual. They are obviously about the dangers of harmful content itself to all people. There are also worries about how the detrimental content crowd out and makes it difficult to identify beneficial content. What started as trickle of digital pollution decades ago, is now a flood that is becoming increasingly harder to handle. The impact to the world is an environment in which people are confronted with disinformation on a daily basis and where lies can cost lives. This will be treated at the thematic webinars on 27 and 29 April 2021 presenting various experiences, innovation and policy dialogue on media and information literacy from experts and practitioners. The webinars are open to the public and will discuss UNESCO’s and the Republic of Serbia’s jointly launched publication: Media and Information Literate Citizens: Think Critically, Click Wisely (Second Edition of the UNESCO Model Media and Information Literacy Curriculum for Educators and Learners). Webinars will cover some issues such as policies and practices: Futures media and information literacy and media & information literacy as a backbone for intercultural dialogue, and anti-hate speech. The publication is meant to counteract this spread of disinformation in a sustainable manner and to help people to have fuller advantage of new information flows. It promotes media and information literacy at the root, which is an effective way to change toxic online and offline behaviors that are nowadays prevalent on many digital platforms and at various parts of society. It was launched on 22 April 2020, by high-level speakers from UNESCO, Serbia, the European Commission and the African Union.

To keep relevant in the future, educational planning must keep pace and adapt to the many changes constantly reshaping our world. From globalization, rapid urbanization, vast technological advancements, to the perils of conflict and climate change, there are a myriad of factors influencing the current and future state of education. Educational planners and managers must keep abreast of all these changes and configure new approaches to planning in an age of rapid transformation. They must update their practices and apply new policy tools to both respond to challenges and take advantage of new advancements. In this context, IIEP-UNESCO is pleased to announce the publication of its first two papers in its Foresight Series, a research project aimed at helping educational decision-makers and managers to adapt their work to a changing environment. Each paper looks at the positives and negatives of a specific education initiative in a given country. In a short, accessible format, the paper’s goal is to help foster discussion on its implications for education policy, planning, and management. The first two editions in this new series take us to the United Kingdom, to explore the role of academies and free schools in the shift towards decentralization and school empowerment, and to Spain, to look at current policy tools to counteract school segregation in Catalonia.

The Institute

As the only specialized organization with the mandate to support educational policy, planning and management, IIEP plays a unique role within the United Nations system. It was established in 1963 as an integral part of UNESCO. The Institute is fully aligned with the objectives of the organization and contributes to its education planning. It develops the capacities of education actors to plan and manage their systems through its programmes of training, technical assistance, policy research and knowledge sharing. IIEP enjoys a large degree of intellectual and functional autonomy. - Wise is the first community interaction platform for public libraries in the United States. Wise integrates and capabilities of customer relationship management, marketing, and analytics with ILS operations in a unique holistic architecture.

- Features of wise are drives change which wise helps get the right messages to the right people and helps to manage events. Other than that, proven system which is wise is an established system with a track record of solid performance and innovation. Furthermore, tailored for US public libraries which they partnered with Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for evaluative testing. Wise also help build stronger relationships which wise integrated marketing component gives the staff easy access to the right information to target specific groups of people, so we they can get the right message to the right person with automate communications, engage in new ways, personalize messages.

- Characteristics of wise we can see is firstly, wise uses key functions, like circulation and acquisitions, to analyze usage data (like how your customers use or don't use your collection). Secondly, wise is designed around people-both library users and library staff-with the goal of delivering great public library experiences and enabling libraries to evolve as their communities evolve. Thirdly, wise evolves collections to reflect the preferences not only of the entire community, but also at an individual branch level. In addition, with wise users also can mix and match data, like borrowing history and age, to make sure that library communication isn't just another email.

2. WorldCat
- WorldCat is the world's most comprehensive database of library collection information. Through WorldCat, libraries collaborate to maintain, improve, and distribute bibliographic data. Other than that, WorldCat is the result of OCLC's staff's ingenuity and innovation, as well as the efforts of thousands libraries. WorldCat makes library collections findable and accessible all across the world, thanks to its massive scale and unrivalled data quality.
- Characteristics that we can see when using WorldCat is WorldCat can make our collection visible. Other than that, provide access to knowledge so people can use WorldCat to see library collections from anywhere on the planet, giving them access to a wealth of knowledge that goes far beyond what can be accessed by a simple internet search. Besides, WorldCat is where we can share our collections. So, WorldCat delivers high-quality data that enables library resource discovery and makes library collections public to the world's biggest resource sharing community. WorldCat also is the foundation of WorldShare Interlibrary Loan. In addition, WorldCat where we can prove our value which is through WorldCat, WorldShare collection evaluation, service assists librarians in comparing their collections and gathering the information they need to evaluate their collection development choices. OCLC member librarians copied catalogued 95 percent of their items from WorldCat in calendar year 2020, saving an average of 10 minutes per little. During that year, these librarians copy cataloged 17,101,022 titles, saving a total of about 3 million hours of time.

Opening the stacks even further.

The aim is to create adaptable services that supply resources to users in a timely and responsive manner. This may result in fewer materials in the local collection but considerably more access outside the building. To do this, a growing number of libraries are extending resource sharing options and experimenting with cooperative borrowing schemes to fulfil demand.

Resource sharing can help your library stay flexible enough to meet the needs of its users. We can make informed decisions about what should stay local as a group without sacrificing access to the long tail of content that is important but rarely requested.
