Leadership and Management: What are the differences?

Leader: I believe a leader is someone that can implement and inspire change within others. Leaders can be found anywhere and can come in many forms, in any walks of life, and they do not have to have all the classic qualities that leaders are supposed to present. But a few qualities I find that must be present in any leader is the ability to communicate their thoughts effectively, and they must be encouraging and supportive.Below are some quotes that display the skills of leadership from my perspective:

'To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart' - Eleanor Roosevelt (American Politician)

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." William Arthur Ward (American Writer)

Manager: I believe that a manager is someone that is effective at allocating things to their certain places; a manager has the foresight to determine what can happen, and can see most outcomes. And with this they are able to best prepare for what comes, good or bad. I think that there is a certain perception that managers are quite insensitive, or intimidating; yet I find this to be quite far from the reality. Of course there are individuals that manage in this way, but most managers can be understanding. In fact I'd believe that management is a part of everyone's life! We as students have to manage our work, allocate certain times to it. We have to manage our feelings, the feelings of others, we have to manage our lives, jobs and many other things, and meeting all the targets of life whether they be business or personal. Management is everywhere!

(this isn't 100 words and I rambled on too much, sorry)

The main difference between leaders and managers is that leaders have people follow them while managers have people who work for them. A successful business owner needs to be both a strong leader and manager to get their team on board to follow them towards their vision of success (Go2hr, 2017).Go2hr (2017) Understanding the differences: leadership and management.

A leader is somebody who takes responsibility for a team or a group of people, leadership is leading a whole group to ensure a change becomes effective.

A manager is somebody who delegates responsibility and a manager would give out roles that would be suitable for each person. Management take responsibility for controlling situations that would become a reality.

The similarities of these concepts are that they both have a role to lead and to make a change. They both have a particular person who is in charge, and they involve a collective group of leaders / management to share out different roles.

The differences are that managers have the title of a manager, as they have been appointed the role; whereas, a leader is someone who naturally takes control of a situation and lead it.
