I choos The Color Purple by Alice Walker.

The Color Purple is a novel by American author Alice Walker. This novel was published in 1982. The story takes place mostly in rural Georgia. It focuses on the life of African-American women in the southern United States in the 1930s, addressing numerous issues including their exceedingly low position in American social culture. Those women are struggling to deal with gender oppression in male dominated of early 20th century African-American society. Celie, as the main character, start to write a letter to god in a attempt to transcend a life that often seems to much to bear. After she knows other people the letter then address to other people not just to god. The four female characters need to against gender oppression. In this novel there are two sisters who remain loyal to one another across time, distance, and silence even they live separately.

This novel is rich with passion, pain, inspriration, and an indomitable love of life. This novel had been adapted into musical and film. Besides, In 2008 BBC Radio 4 broadcast a radio adaptation of the novel in ten 15-minute episodes as a Woman's Hour serial. But this novel is 17th on the American Library Association's list of most frequently challenged or banned books Commonly cited justications for banning the book include sexual explicitness, explicit language, violence, and homosexuality. The book received greater scrutiny amidst controversy surrounding the release of the film adaptation in 1985. Even so, the author won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making her the first woman to win that, and the National Book Award for Fiction. The novel's deeply inspriration narrative, coupled with Walker's prodigious talent as a storyteller, have made the novel a contemporary classic of American letters.

Novitania putri

As we know all of adapted movie always contradicts with the novel such as Harry Potter. The same thing also happens to the novel I guess. That's the thing that I always want to know about both of them. Talking about the novel, as I read a bit, I found that it reflects the social class that happened many years ago in the western countries. How the upper class people conquer the top of the society. And adore the main character of this novel Jim Gatsby, he is a mysterious millionaire who obsesses a woman called Daisy Buchanan. He holds extravagant parties but does not participate in them. I like the way he loves Daisy and being mysterious millionaire.

Since I heard the short synopsis from Tifanny and Rani’s group in the class, then I am interesting to read the synopsis from the articles because I do not have the pdf or the book. There are some theories I found from articles on the internet about this novel, but I am more interested in the character of Daisy which she is only to be seen, but not to be heard. So, that is why I am interesting to know more and more.

The novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald is telling about the women oppression in a patriarchal society which Daisy is the main character. The story revolves around the social conditions of the people of New York and Long Island where women are limited by the system. Therefore, they are unable to develop their personalities and cannot take advantage of their rights. However, he presented Jordan Baker where he existed to overcome the oppression of women.

I just searched the rating each of the books that you recommend and the color purple is the highest among the others so I think many people also love this book. I have watched the movie version when I'm in high school and I have no words to describe it. It is painful and also beautiful as there is injustice and a happy ending. So most of all there is so much thing to learn. But one thing I really want to know, what is the reason behind choosing the color purple as the title. So for the next, I will try to figure out through reading this book. Thank you mam

Good evening Bu,
I already read all of the review of those works. And I’ve chosen Whuttering Height by Emily Bronte among fifth works that you offered to us.

Firstly, I really interested in Bronte’s personality, she is not really famous writer in her era. And based on the article that I have read before, there are many thing about her life experiences has a relationship with her novels.

And the most thing that I interested in this novel is because the story is about love, hatred, sorrow, and death. The Whuttering Heights is the name for Mr. Earnshaw’s family mansion. The story begins with Mr. Earnshaws. He has two children, Hindley and Catherine. And one day he brought a very dirty black-haired orphan boy, Heathcliff. Heathcliff became a favorite boy for Mr. Earnshaws, and he was friendly with Chatrine, while Handley hated him. Heathcliff and catherine became rebels againts Hindley. In this story Heathcliff and Catherine love each other, but Emily makes their story complicated. Catherine married with Edgar and Heathcliff angry then dissapear for a long time. Then he returns with a plan to revenge on Hindley and Edgar that he hates so much. But he also returned with love that was still as great as Catherine. He loves and hates. Te battle continues in his soul. So, I want to know more about the pshycological point of view in Heathcliff’s side. When the Ego, Id and Superego take some area on Heathcliff. How a person at the same time is capable of having the capacity of love and hate comparable ones or equal.

Thankyou Bu,

MAR

Dear Bu Eva,

I have read the synopsis and chosen The Secret Garden written by Frances Hodgson to be my reading for the final exam. The Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, tells us about Mary Lennox (the main character) who lives with her uncle’s manor in Yorkshire after her parents' death. She got interested with an abandon garden in the back yard. It is Martha who tells Mary about Mrs. Craven's walled garden, which has been closed and locked since her death. And see what is the relation between wilde and his work especially on the picture of Dorian Gray. I am going to solve the picture of dorian gray and see what is another things that he is hidden and trying to draw it implicitly by comprehending one by one of the story boat that had been written.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (Siti Maulina

A Tale of Two Cities.
Dear Ma'am, I chose novel titled A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens as my final paper's discussion.
The reason why I chose the novel A Tale of Two cities is because the 'two cities' that be said in the title is refers to France and London. I became curious about the 'tale' between those two cities, since I knew that the language that is used in London is influenced by the one that already used in France. So, I want to know more about what happen with this two cities, Ma'am.
The other reason why I chose this novel is because I do love children present. When I read the titles of the novel that ia given, I got interested on the word 'tale' in this novel's title. I interest in reading children present, ma'am. I love the way it is written.
This novel is also tells about the history in the past. In my opinion, an easy way to understand a history in the past is by reading a novel. It is because a novel could interest people with the character and plot of the story in the history. So people cannot stop read until it is over. Then, they not only satisfy the reader but also give the reader an easy and deep understanding about the history.
These are my reason why I chose A Tale of Two Cities as my subject on my final paper, ma'am.
Regards,
Siti.
