         <description><![CDATA[<p>1)  In this passage, the author asserts that even in 1978, when the selection was written and well after women were given suffrage and should be considered equal, women were still not treated as equals with men.</p><p>2)  The author also utilizes syntax (though there are question marks, they are followed with lowercase letters implying that the sentence continues:  the entire passage seems to be a single sentence) to imply that parents are giving too many rules without listening to the child's thoughts about the fairness of said rules.  The mother is talking much more than the daughter is, and when the daughter does speak, it is italicized giving the impression that it is just a background to the sound of the mother speaking.  This is somewhat similar to "no taxation without representation."</p>]]></description>
