This Flocabulary lesson uses a rap song to teach students the five elements of a short story. Along with the song, there are the words and various visuals to go along with it.

For any of those that like this and wish to use it, they have some videos uploaded onto YouTube. However, it is a website-based program that you must pay for. You can search by grade level, subject area, etc. They include a video, the lyrics, activities, assessments, and more. You are able to have a free trial for a short amount of time, but you must then subscribe once the trial is over. This could be a great resource once we have become teachers! I (Jennifer) loved using it as a student in my high school ELA class.

How does it support the learners?

Beach ball learners: supported through the use of multiple resources. This lesson allows the learners to have various ways of learning the vocabulary. They have visuals, words, and music. Each beach ball learner (and the below learners) may also have other learning styles underneath this (multiple intelligences) that this can also touch on.
Clipboard learners: supported through the use of the flocabulary video (in this example) because they can learn best through visuals. They are able to see various forms of the words and their definitions, but also be given a visual attached within the video.
Puppy learners: thrive for group work and working in pairs to learn. This can be used within formative assessment, summative assessment, or anchor activities.
Microscope learners: can use a specific text to examine the five elements of a short story; use critical thinking skills and concept analyzation to determine the five elements; use group discussions to compare ideas
