chapter 1:The stolen letters.

In chapter 1, we meet Violet, Mother, Father, Chloe, and Stephen. The story is set in 1920, and women cannot vote yet. Violet finds letters from Chloe, her older sister, that were hidden from mother. Chloe was sent away by her parents. she now lives in New York. She is a nurse and drives her own car, and is a ''New Woman''which means she wants women to have the right to vote. Violet is upset her mother hid these letters and misses Chloe so much. Her best friend Flossie died 2 years ago from influenza, or the Spanish flu. Her brother Stephen is about Chloe's age and we don't know much about him. In the end , Chloe s on the banks of the Susquehanna River feeling very mad at her parents for hiding the letters.

Chapter 2: The Dying M.rs Renwick.

Violet had enough of Mother and Father So she ran away and took a train to New York to find her sister Chloe, and she is only 11!On the train she meets an anti suffragist who is a old lady and she talks to violet and the old lady asks questions to violet like what will you be when you grow up and how many children will you have.Violet tells the old lady she will have 7! Violet said that when she grows up she will be a reporter but she did't she was just respecting her friend Flossie that died with the Spanish flu but when the candy man came around with some candy the old lady Mrs Renwick gave Violet 2 pieces of candy because she wanted 7 children.And she just left because her parents hid the letters.

Chapter 3: Meeting Myrtle.

The theme of Chapter 3 is when you get lost you can find hope when you think you can't. In the begining Violet gets off the train and is in the station Violet is trying to ask for directions but she just gets pushed by the crowd. In the middle Violet feels lost and is scared and finds a friend named Myrtle,Myrtle helps violet up and their now friends Violet asks if Myrtle knows where Henry street is and lukily Mrytle knows. In the end Violet and Mrytle finds Henry street but Chloe is not there.In the end they are thinking of going to Washington because they heard that Chloe is in Washington D.C but they don't have the money to afford it.

Chapter 4: Henry street.

In Chapter 4 , Violet and Myrtle finally arrived at Henry street! Violet had anxiety going into the house, but Myrtle just pushes the door open. Myrtle has never been in a house so it was very different for her, inside they see a man sitting on a sofa and ask him if he knew where Chloe was but unfortunately Chloe had left! The man said that Chloe went to Washington to help women to get equal rights, Violet thought that Chloe would stay here and help people in the hospital but Chloe went. Violet was going to go to Washington but Violet and Myrtle didn't have enough money.

Chapter 5: Hobie and the Brakeman

In Chapter 5 Violet and Myrtle meet someone named Hobie at the train station. Hobie helps them out. Hobie explains how to ride trains without paying money. Hobie takes Violet and Myrtle on to the train and gets into a blind spot which means getting into a spot where the people on the train cannot see you. Hobie,Violet and Myrtle spend the night having hobo stew and they listen to Hobie's stories.

Chapter 6: It all comes down to Tennessee

Violet and Myrtle got off of the train and Violet asked Myrtle where the suffrugists were but Myrtle said first we must wash up or somewone will scream for the cops. When they were washed up the headed to a suffrugists house the person that answers was about to slam the door shut but then Violet said Chloe mehew is my sister and then they let Violet and Myrtle into the house. When they were inthe house they spoke to a famous person named Alice Paul Violet new who she was because Flossie made Violet read one of her papers. Alice Paul said that they should have a bath Violet and Myrtle acsepted the bath.

Chapter 7:Heading to Nashville

In Chapter 7 we find Violet and Myrtle eating breakfast at miss Paul's house Mr Martin explained why Violet should write to her parents and let them know where she is and Violet wrote that she was fine, and Martin thankfully paid the telegraph.After the meal Violet and Myrtle get to convince Alice Paul and her crew to take them to Nashville Tennessee.So they got on on the train but when the Conductor was checking tickets he said to Myrtle that she would have to ride in the colored car because she was colorored Mr Martin argued a lot but it was no use.

Chapter 8: In the jim crow car

In Chapter 8 Violet and Myrtle are taking a Jim cro car to Tennennesse Violet starts to travel from car to car to give Myrtle some food. Then she tries to travel back to her car but she gets caught, she pushes the Conductor out of the way and runs. While Violet is running she keeps bumping into other people.

Chapter 9: Mister martins escape

When Violet got back to her seat two men were already there talking to miss Dexter the two men were very strange to Violet and wanted to know what was going on with the two men. Violet did not know what was going on but she thought it might have something to do with mister Martin. After Violet thought for a moment Violet went back up to Myrtle to give some food Violet was going to tell Mrytle what she thought was going on Violet also knew that mister Martin was getting root beer for everyone so if something was up Violet could tell mister Martin what was up.

Chapter 11: Finding Chloe

In Chapter 11 we see the theme "inequality is injustice". Violet is hungry and wants to find somewhere to eat, but she is told she can't eat in one of the hotel restaurants because it is for men only. It is unequal and unfair that men and women can't eat in the same restaurant, especially given that there isn't a restaurant for only women. She also realizes that the woman who pinned a red rose on her at the train station was an anti, and she was staying in an anti room at the hotel. She finds out she can eat sandwiches if she goes into the Anti's meeting. AS she listens to them speak, she learns how they were getting men to change their minds about voting for the Susan B. Anthony amendment. Violet overheard some people talking and they said," Mayhew" and got really exited to finaly see Chloe. And she did.

Chapter 10: Red and yellow roses

Violet helps a woman who had fallen and was upset about losing her son in the war, and Violet gets angry about the way woman have to sit in silence while woman are not allowed to be a part of the decision- making process. Meet miss Charlotte Rowe and she accompanies Violet from the train station to the hotel where she is staying. When Violet walks toward the entrance at the hotel, she is told buy Miss Rowe that woman use a different at the side of the building. It is unequal that woman and men cannot enter by the same entrance, and it is unfair that woman have to enter at the side of the building, as if they aren't important enough to enter at the front

in this Chapter , they are looking for food nobody will allow them in because of Myrtle . Eventully they find a wallgreens drug store with snacks , but the guy doen't let them stay in. So they eat in the alley with their food .Mr Martin gets dirrections from a hotel that allows colord people . Its run down , but it works. They each get their own rooms. Violet has her room wih an anti! It was for her spying.

In Chapter 14 Myrtle wondering what'she would do.After the vote Myrtle told mister Martin to Mary Chloe Mister Martin dismissed this conversation. Mister Martin said to Violet and Myrtle that he was going to gather news while he was taking a walk. Violet went down to Chloe and mister Martin showed up mister Martin and Chloe talked and talked and Violet thought it was boring to listen to so Violet wanted to leave then Violet noticed that if Mister Martin was there than Myrtle was problidy there too so Violet looked for Myrtle and then Violet found her and they talked and they both did not know when they were going to vote but they thought that it must be soon

Chapter 15 : ferocious Miss Catt

In chapter 15 Violet was spying on the antis. They were talking about kidnapping. They were talking about kidnapping one of the suffragists legislators. Myrtle was looking for Mr Martin because she didn't want Mr Martin to get arrested. Miss catt came and yeld at Mr Martin Violet and Myrtle

Chapter 16: politics and gunplay

In the beginning Chloe talt Violet and Myrtle how to start a car and how to fix it and all of that car stuff and Violet got to drive and Myrtle did too! When it was Myrtles turn to drive Violet saw that mister martin was looking at bace ball stuff on the news paper. IN the middle mister Martin got arrested!

Chapter 17:

In Chapter 17 Myrtle told Chloe and Violet that mister martin

got arrested, Violet and Chloe were both suprised and then Myrtle told violet and Chloe what the agents said. The agents said that mr Martin was born in a different country. Then Violet went to Chloe and her meeting spot and by what thought that Chloe would show up but she didn't so Violet went on to the hope chest and went into the streets and looked for Chloe. After looking for Chloe Violet looks for missed your blocks but instead she finds the other person that she was not looking for but it was still fine cuz it costed another vote.
