I shared some examples of exercises I run with undergrad and postgrad students, which you found interesting but not quite accessible to the P7 children – some things would go over their heads.

I pointed out that there are ways of teaching film / sound recording that encourage listening, experimentation , creativity and do not rely so heavily on filming actors in a pro-filmic scene in a conventional hollywood style narrative - it is extremely challenging even for Postgrad students. When teaching field recording we can demystify recording technologies (e.g. softening https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/214583/214584) but also use the sound/walk listening exercises to encourage reflection about social justice issues e.g. see Vaccuum https://gsashowcase.net/alexandra-bell/ . 

We thought of ways that we could use one-word prompts from the language around Rights of the Child – experimenting with visuals timeline of visuals , textures, filters, and thoughts (poetry/sounds) . e.g. in Glasgow Improviser's Orchestra we responded to the theme of "Colour" one day - some used paints, others digital painting, I used live make up application and somehow made a work about gendered vulnerability in improvised music. 

 

When using the Pupil equity fund got to have proof it raises raising attainment. You are currently applying for funding – through an outside funding source for the Soundscapes/UofG. 

 

Keen to set something  - short experimental experiences – for the children give them an insight to that world. 

Keen to bring the children to the art school. 

Massive project doesn’t have to be straight away – research I want to be involved in next year! (Arts curriculum development needs to be over the next 3 years at St Alberts)

 

WP – externally funded by SFC – beholden to show measurable impact  – would need to make a rationale pilot raise awareness of the school, potentially use it as an opportunity to better understand cultural pressure/familial pressure on creative study – across 4 days – gather a little feedback from pupils around family and carers ask Does it seem like a viable career path bow. 

 

Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, experimental bringing skills transferable into career /  paying an undergrad, mdes or gradutte to execute ideas JA suggested.
