Moving campuses and classes

Not having a base room

(Suggest - One corridor to limit travel)

Impact - visual presence. students will know where to find us and dress classrooms with relevant information

Breaks are impossible with timetable restrictions - esp moving campuses

(Suggest - 1 campus per day at least would be better)

Impact - staff wellbeing - able to have lunch and less stress, no carrying of resources. Learner impact - less staff turnover,

Class size - suggest smaller classes

(Suggest 20 as a max per class)

Impact less crowd control, individual learner time and improvement of results.

Discipline - no back up with regards to PM response - cause for concerns Response less than 5%.

Impact - classroom behavior is an issue and it affects the learning experience of students

Contextualization - hard to achieve due to the mixture of students in classes

Suggest - relate to their everyday life / vocational areas

Impact - no relevance to students - would like to make relevant.

1)

Streaming better/classes sorted better

Impact - Students knew where they were going earlier and we were able to direct to classes

Standardised SOW

Impact - absence of tutors was minimized, all learners learning same topic promoted discussion. When students moved groups they did not repeat topics.

Intervention classes - better attendance than last year. Students appreciated being able to choose topics for master classes to attend in the holidays. Work with the university worked well for some students , really need to push that more next year.

Collaborative Planning -

Impact - this worked really well, photocopying and resources were ready in the main with each teacher taking responsibility for planning a week's classes - also helped with cover classes especially supply)

Assessment Feedback

Impact - target setting and automated feedback worked well for some students.

Management of workload

Providing maths lessons to the entire college covering 3 campuses, including GAP, Laser, Community and Apprenticeships whilst having no base, no set teaching rooms, having over 100 students to oversee and input relevant data has been achieved by all staff working above and beyond.

Mathswatch

Almost all students have benefited from using this resource. Easy to track which learners are using it and easy to set homework.

Suggestion - next year use in career coach sessions to embed and consolidate learning.

A = 2 pi r squared is not the area of a circle!! It is just pi r squared!

1. large class sizes
2. room utilisation- rooms were unsuitable for size of class like ILT, stationery, etc
3. 30 min lunch break between morning and afternoon sessions esp while teaching across campuses.
4. Over assessments for GCSE and functional skills.
5. Staff based on every campus would be better.
6. Streaming the classroom for foundation and higher students.
7. better planning of end of assessments of vocational subjects.
8.Discipline in the college and classroom.
9. First half of the lecture can be a lesson and the second half a workshop.

1)
- Intervention sessions: better prepared students for exams.
- Progress Tracking: Success this year, intervention strategies.
- Google Drive: Easy access of resources within department.
- for GCSE Maths Watch is a very good resource to assign task, assess and track it- Needs further development (from April)
- Good staff timetable (getting full staff together for meetings and planning)
- Predicted Functional skills results have gone up from last year.
- Assessments- the feedback sheet generated after mocks helps student to reflect on the weaker areas.
- Resources for functional skills have been developed inhouse but needs more development.
- Good staff- cover for a class is available whenever needed.
-
