I understand that teaching and learning are influenced by the physical, temporal, and psychosocial environments. The physical environment is about the classroom space and materials, which should be safe and inviting for children to explore and learn. The temporal environment is how time is managed through routines and schedules, giving children structure and enough time for different activities. The psychosocial environment is the social and emotional climate, where positive relationships and support help children feel safe and confident. When these three environments work together, children can learn better and enjoy the process.

As a new teacher, I am guided by the idea that children learn best in a safe, caring, and fun environment. In my planning, I think about their needs, interests, and abilities, and I follow the learning goals and routines that support their growth. I also make sure there are chances for play, exploration, and building positive relationships.

The temporal environment is how the time is managed. For example, routines and how the schedule are carried out, how long or short are the various activities.

One thing that I have done is to use story mania such as the three little pigs houses, and the pictures of the children to allow them to recognise where to sit.

It works for some children, and does not work for some. For example, some children are able to recognise their own photo and sit down throughout the lesson such as Idris, Rinabelle, Xin yue, Emma, and Ryder sometimes Erwin and Mirzayne. However it does not work work some such as Fatih and Abigail.

What can be done better is to reinforce the seating so that children are better able to recognise where they should sit. And another thing to improve on is it spread it out slightly as it might be too close together.

As the current position is near the kitchen hence there’s a lot movement, causing the kids not being able to focus. Moving it into the classroom near PNC group A will be a better location as it’s quieter and lesser movement. Through this new implementation, hopefully it will help the kids to be more focus and read better.

I enlarged the poster display on the wall used during circle time to make it more visible for the children. This way, they can clearly see and engage with it, allowing them to learn from their environment more effectively. Instead of just looking at the poster randomly, they can now refer to it regularly during circle time, helping reinforce what they’re learning. As we know, some children are visual learners, so having clear and accessible visuals supports their understanding and memory.

I learnt that we need to continuously find ways to enhance our environment to allow children to learn better. By trying to change we can see how some things may work and sometimes things do not. For example, by adding the visual cues, the children knew where to sit which was good, but after some time, the children would get upset if someone else is sitting on their picture. By finding ways to improve the environment, it not only help the children to learn better, but also help the teacher manage the class better.
