"The principal asked me a few more questions I couldn't understand. With Mom translating, I gave answers that he couldn't understand. Then he asked Brian some questions, and they couldn't understand each other, either."

This picture of language barrier is reflective of the time where the principal of Welch Elementary could not understand Jeannette or Brian, because of each other's accents. This leads the principal to put them in classes for students with learning disabilities. This is an example of Non-conformity because they fail to meet the expectations of the principals when Rose Mary spoke highly of them.

"That was the thing about the hospital. You never had to worry about running out of stuff like food or ice or even chewing gum. I would have been happy staying in that hospital forever."

This picture of a hospital represents the time where Jeannette was staying at the hospital for her burns. This is an example of Order and Chaos because at the hospital, there was order, where there are rules to follow, clean conditions to stay in, plenty of food, and protection from harm. This is very different from her home, where they did not have a lot of money to buy food, poor living standards with substandard clothing, and pretty much no rules to follow or keep them safe.

“'You want to help me change my life?' Mom asked. 'I’m fine. You’re the one who needs help. Your values are all confused.'”

This picture of refusing help is when Rose Mary refuses help from Jeannette. This is an example of Self-sufficiency because Rose Mary did not want any help nor thought that she needed any. She goes as far as to say that Jeannette needs help, probably because they do not share a common thinking or values.

"He explained that he was going to hire a truck to cart thegarbage to the dump all at once. But he never got around to that, either, and as Brian and I watched, thehole for the Glass Castle's foundation slowly filled with garbage."

This picture of garbage is reflective of the time were Rex fills the foundation that Brian and Jeannette made, for the glass castle, with garbage. This is an example of broken promises because Rex never moved the garbage out of the foundation and it just keep piling up. Jeannette finally realises that there will never be a glass castle and there dream itself is filled up with trash.

"I stared at the plans. 'Dad,' I said, 'you’ll never build the Glass Castle.' 'Are you saying you don’t have faith in your old man?' 'Even if you do, I’ll be gone.' 'As soon as I finish classes, I’m getting on the next bus out of here. If the buses stop running, I’ll hitchhike. I’ll walk if I have to. Go head and build the Glass Castle, but don’t do it for me.'"

This picture is reflective of the time where Jeannette finally decides that she wants to leave Rex and Rose Mary to go to New York City with Lori. This is an example of coming of age because Jeannette is finally leaving her parents, to go start a life without any supervision from her parents. She will start to handle problems and obstacles her way.

This picture of a toast represents the time where Rose Mary revolved about Rex's part of the family. This is an example of acceptance because they finally accepting the fact, that Rex wasn't at all a good father but was a entertaining one.
