I’ve worked with you on and off for probably 15 years and I would say that every interaction I had with you I got way more value from the exchange than you did so thank you for all the value that you gave me and apologies for the poor return in the other direction!!

You have a fantastic ability to find common sense, grounded and comprehensive solutions/answers. In fact I would say that you only ever deal in the common sense, grounded and comprehensive. When I met you first I got the impression that you were a pretty serious person but as I’ve got to know you a bit better I now know that you have a great dry sense of humour which I always enjoy and while you are a very serious and grounded person you don't take yourself too seriously and you always retain the ability to laugh at yourself and with others.

In the last few years as we’ve worked a bit more closely on the Good to Great Coaching programme and you have been absolutely fantastic to work with – you challenged us as coaches very effectively and you have been the glue that keeps the programme working effectively. Your ability to coach all sorts of prospective coaches through all sorts of different situations is hugely impressive. You have blended the formal material of the programme with real life experience so effectively and it has made G2G so much more impactful for the participants. We’ve also managed to have some fun while delivering a very good course which I put down to your leadership and ability to mix work and play!

I think your departure is a huge loss to Diageo but I know that you’ve been thinking about this for a while and it’s the right time for you to set out for pastures new and I’m really pleased for you for that reason. I know you will be a success in whatever you choose to do next and I wish you and the family every good fortune for the future.

Thank you for your patience and ability to talk me down when things got a little crazy (iDevelop is never to be mentioned again!) During some of our coaching conversations you encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and I really appreciate all the genuine support you gave me when I told you I wanted to apply for the L4L secondment. You are a constant voice of reason and able to cut to the chase, quickly get to the point and get on with it to make things happen.
