In this experiment , we are observing the color flames that a burning chemical element produces.

We started by soaking coffee stitrrers in different solutions labeled in each individual test tube. After a minute of soaking the coffee stirrers , we turned on the bunsen burner and adjusted the flame so that just enough air and gas are in the bunsen burner . we placed each coffee stirrer in the flame one at a time.

Why does this phenomenon happen?

This phenomenon happens because when the element reacts with the flame, a color appears in the fire.

In the expeiment, different types of elements were tested. All of them had reacted to the flame, which caused them to become different colors.

How did you determine your unknown?

When we placed the coffe stirrer in the flame we compared the color to other elements we had pitures of.

Then we found out it was potassium.
