The setting of the story is represented as a dark, eerie and had lack of colours as it was described. When everyone was around Yolande placing the pink roses over her, the students and the teacher gained an immense amount of hope because of it's contrast and difference to the setting and what it meant to the students. The rose is a bright flower and when they placed it over her, the students' spirits were lifted and they accepted Yolande's death and knew she was in a better place.
