(Pg. 16) Students have to have time to find books they like and not be rushed. They also need time to read those books. The community part is important too. That is why I think book clubs are important. Helping them comprehend that reading not only can help you be a better human but also it can help you escape into another world (Pg. 18). We have to be careful not to make the library another rule heavy place. We can create a culture where readers practice courtesy and respect. I was already noting my loves on page 1. where she states "My mother was my world, and she brought reading into it." This reminded me of the cartoon graphic where a mom on her phone asks the mom with a book in her hand how she gets her child to read. Bottom line, we are the example. Page 11-"No matter what else I had to offer them (the students) I could offer my enthusiasm for books." Everybody's Got Something, a book by Robin Roberts, came to mind. We all have that one thing to give & to be in a position to share and teach the love for it, in my opinion, ignites that enthusiasm. 
Page 13- " I recognized that this Newbery Medal-Winning book was not the problem; how I taught it was. " 
Page 14- "When I allowed my students to choose their own books, their interest in completing assignments was sparked, I just failed to make the connection." I found this to be a validating point as to why here in the library we allow students to CHOOSE books as opposed to limiting their choices to COLOR DOTS. There are many ways to "READ" a book & when interested they will. Much to the point on page 11, our enthusiasm most lies with our interests. 
Page 15- " I should guide them as they approach their own understandings." Jennifer you & I recently chatted this, as we are facilitators of learning & innovation and not simply one of brain dumping information. This is a big topic.
Page 16- "Reading is both a cognitive and emotional journey."
Page 18- "Reading helps pursue your own education." Absolutely no better way to end this chapter. It represents that the potentiality for  knowledge and growth are infinite for anyone.

That so resonates with me. It never fails if I finish a book and share my recommendation (or components of the book that kept me turning the pages) with students that book remains checked out for months on end, being passed on between friends and grade levels. I always emphasize the NEED to finish the book completely to truly understand the magnitude of a book. (It is so common nowadays that they lose interest too quickly and so many NEVER finish a book...I don't know how they can read on it for days, then NOT finish it!) If we are passionate about reading, and sharing, then we are teaching them how to read & share their experiences. Giving them ample time to explore books for checkout and then giving them an area or time to share what they are reading helps build that culture of loving literature.
