I will elaborate the Risk Taking concept of Shelly Pinacie, SKYE Management and Consulting. The biggest challenged she took according to her was taking risks, getting out of her comfort zone, stepping out in the corporate world where she has always been provided from like benefits, and to pension. However, he took a huge risk to get out from all of this to venture out and established her own business. These risks took a toll on her both financially and emotionally, but the timing as well, during her kids were still in school. Being an Indigenous woman according to her, she had doubts that people might question her and not to believe her. But she strongly believed that a lot of businesses out there willing to learn how Indigenous business works and how it is done, Shelly proved them all that she got what it takes to get out of poverty and help people, specially her Indigenous community. She said, just get out there, help people, share your gifts. This is what struck me the most, to be willing to take risks in life to achieve greatness and success.

I took away their hard work to overcome all the barriers they faced. It was not easy for them but they worked hard to get passed all the obstacles and become successful. Some of those obstacles included lack of access to financial products which are crucial when starting a business, lack of entrepreneurial or business education, very few options of support from the bigger communities outside and very few (if any) government support programs for indigenous entrepreneurs. I was very impressed with all the obstacles faced to be where they are today.

There were many success strategies mentioned by the business people of the roundtable but there was one that really inspired me and I would like to mention it here. The indigenous business leaders never accepted failure although they faced many obstacles when starting their businesses. For example, the Chief Darcy project to start a hotel and casino was a great example of it. The banks wouldn't give him the capital to start this great project but he never stopped his attempts until he finally found a way to bridge the finances of the project. A successful strategy for every entrepreneur should be like this, to never stop their efforts even the challenges and obstacles look impossible to be solved.

Economically speaking, until more recent years, Indigenous people have been restricted from economic growth and development. Procurement, financial literacy and business opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs is so important. Growing up it wasn't really talked about however around the late 2000's it was becoming more of a priority. Community Renewal Corp and Business Development Corp's were established and now we have many young Indigenous entrepreneurs coming out of The Pas. We even have other successful, Indigenous, power move makers in industries like Medicine, Aviation and Hockey. As time goes on I know many peoples will rise above the statistics and make change in the North.

East Central Alberta has a very rich Indigenous history but there are very few cultural or tourism activities that invite participation. I have heard that this is because the First Nations people here were relocated due to european industry expansion (rail, coal, oil & gas). There have been national gatherings for Metis in my village in the past. And the Dry Island Buffalo Jump is in this area and deserves investment into First Nations cultural/tourism initiatives. This course is helping me understand the limitations - why isn't the Metis Festival running anymore? Why isn't Dry Island Buffalo Jump run by local First Nations? Of note, there are no local First Nations Reserves around here.

One important thing I learned from the videos is how Indigenous women in business find success by working together and supporting each other. They make connections with other Indigenous businesses and get help from people who have more experience. By building these networks, Indigenous women can learn from each other, get resources they need, and feel more confident in male-dominated fields. It's like having a big team that helps each other out, which makes it easier to succeed.
