I think collaboration is a team effort and something that can be beneficial for everyone involved. Positive collaboration can lead to amazing new idea and supportive collaborations/teams. That type of collaboration is vital to our industry and to the theatre as a whole. Theatre is a sum of its parts and any good show has positive collaboration behind it.

Collaboration matters because no show is complete without full collaboration of everyone involved. Any team effort is inefficient without the sum of its parts which comes through collaboration. The collaborators are a vital part of the process because everyone brings new ideas and experiences to the table and without every one theatre/ ideas will not progress pass their current state.

Collaboration leads to the best ideas because its multiple people working together towards a common goal. Also many perspectives help create ideas that wouldn't have been possible without those new perspectives.

A great example of positive collaboration that lead to creative gain is the Dream SMP. A multiplayer Minecraft server that became an overnight sensation leading to gain for all those involved in this creative process. Their collaboration has built a SMP phenomenon.

I draw inspiration from a lot of places. Whether it is form relative fields like music or ambiance creation or something totally different like modern abstract art. I take inspiration from a lot of different places to create something new and tailored to each show I am working on. Some of my current inspirations are from the music world with composers like Mozart, Bach, and Dovrak and their pieces.

I tend to set time aside for the projects I am working on. Dedicating time to absorb myself into the world of the project in order to create and develop sound effects or ambiances. The best practices I feel are ones that can be utilized in every situation. For instance being able to set aside time or to create a mood board/ idea board for the world of a show can be utilized in any theatrical format.

I value dedication above all else. Dedication to the process ahead is needed for any theatrical ongoing. If you have people who are dedicated then the work will get done and will be of high caliber. When people slack off or aren't as invested they wont be able to bring their best ideas or selves forward to the project.

I feel that inspiration can come from anywhere and at any time. It doesnt even have to be related to what you are working on. If it helps you create and synthesize an idea then it is inspiration. For example in some of my current projects I draw inspiration from Sea Shanties that have nothing to do with the show I am working on but their structure and composition inspires some of my character composition choices.

My aspirations and goals focus on learning and trying new things within my discipline. I want to run sound for all sorts of live and pre recorded shows, games or other mediums. I am really interested in trying to learn more about sound and being able to apply it in new ways.

In addition to learning new mediums I also want to be more creative and innovative with how we use sound in the theatre/ what we can do within a show. Each show has different opportunities for the types of sound of music that can be incorporated. My goal is to be apart of that innovation and creation in theatre.

By utilizing these foundational practices I can bring forward new ideas and innovations to projects I am working on. Having that strong of a foundation for going into your work is vital to the creation of new ideas and being able to bring something new to a project.

I also value hard work from all sides of the team. When other people are working just as hard as you are it is really inspiring and makes it easier to dedicate your time and effort to the goal. When everyone is fully invested in the project the end product become better than ever expected.

A song that has really been inspiring me lately is Lacrimosa composed by Mozart. The history behind the piece is fascinating and it makes you want to conquer everything in your path.

Whenever I work on a project I typically retreat to a safe quiet place like a library or coffee shop or my room and just focus on the project at hand.

I always listen to classical or lofi music when creating sound effects or reading scripts. It always helps to have something calming in the background drowning out any distractions. I have a 1,600 song playlist of classical and lofi songs that cycles through whenever I am working on something.

I think it would also be an amazing experience to mix concerts whenever this pandemic ends and I have the opportunity to do so.
