How is this biome altered?

Around 5 million hectares of forest are converted for agricultural use every year.
This particularly happens in areas of South America and Africa.
In some areas the land is burned then seeds are laid on the warm ash, these grows farms.

How is this biome altered?

Agriculture uses around 70 percent of the available water supply for irrigation and farming.
The extra irrigation washes over other plants that are held in the ground through their roots, slowly washing them away.
Fertilisers such as animal manure, and nitrogen, and being washed into lakes and rivers, causing alge to grow out of control.

In the Philippines, they spray crops with pesticides, these crops then drain into Laguna Bay which is one of the most polluted areas in the world.

Soil is impacted by food production because the amount of food that is grown is is decline and it is estimated that around 2 hectares of land have been impacted in this way.
These activities include clearing forests to make way for farms and towns, increasing the numbers and density of farm animals, poor irrigation practices and over farming.
Growing so many crops that the natural nutrients of the soil are removed and not replaced.

There are many human activities that can lead to desertification, but they are all related to the overuse of the land and water in vulnerable regions.
This includes overgrazing by animals such as cattle and goats, the removal of forest cover, the use of trees and shrubs for firewood.
Extracting water from the ground poor irrigation practices and growing crops on marginal farming land ( land that is difficult to farm).
