Virgin on The Rocks

1.The work is a scene of a woman sitting in what seems to be a grotto, she is surrounded by children and the palette appears to be rather moody and dark.

2.The color palette is a dark background with secondary subjects not being as well lit as the main subject which is highlighted by her blue and gold cloak. All subjects are sitting in the center almost forming a shape as well.

3.Based off the title and composition the piece almost seems to represent a virgin like purity to it and a sense of innocence and kindness.

4.The painting almost seems to invoke a sense of kindness and innocence and with my former catholic background it seems similar to many works that are displayed in churches I used to visit.

Isenheim Altarpiece

The piece seems to be within the barriers and almost seems able to fold out from within those barriers.

The palette seems to be dark with a dark background, the subjects are highlighted by their red capes which make them stand out , a crucified jesus stands within the center with a sickly like appearance, in the bottom panel it depicts when Jesus was removed from the cross and in Mary’s arms and appears to have a green tint to his skin.

The piece appears to depict the crucifixion of jesus with perhaps a twist on his fate, he appears to almost seem sick due to the sores and green hue depicted on him.

Seeing the scene it shows a biblical scene being displayed and almost appears to show a sense of relatibility to the viewer using Jesus as a subject.

The piece depicts a large group of Rococo period wealthy class people on a trip, it appears to have romantic themes and a classical period influence due to the background

The piece depicts a rococo period wealthy group embarking on a trip, the presence of a classical period statue is seen off in the right side almost blending in the background, the colors are bright and soft and depicts a detailed landscape.

It appears as if the subjects are embarking on a vacation like trip to a greek or roman island, based of the period it seems like a lot of the subjects may be french royals and a classical interpretation is felt

The piece almost reminds me of a love like feeling as well as including the influence from romantic era pieces, the pagan statue also appears similar to aphrodite or hera as well.
