The estate general was a system of the people's population. Each Estate counts as one vote,the Third estate pays taxes. The issue with the estate general was that the Third estate was always outvoted 2 to 1. Also they were the only ones paying taxes and they lived in poor conditions. The National Assembly was another form of government which is a representation of the population. They would not like the representation by population because the Third estate makes up 89% of the population. The Third estate created the Oath because they were locked out of the assembly. They wanted the constitution for the free people of France to be written. The kings response was to send all of the people that participated to jail.

Storming of the Bastille happens because the commoners feel that King Louis XVl is attacking their rights. The commoners try to protest against the soldiers. People march towards the palace of Versailles because of the price of bread. The commoners are upset at the Queen for spending so much money on parties and luxuries. The people are really poor and use saw dust to make their bread,also they have to pay the higher estate to work. The legislative government operates by keeping the monarchy and people happy and stable. It fails because of weak leadership and they never had a government that wasn't a monarchy. Robespierre was in charge during the First republic and Reign of Terror. The goal of the First republic was to support the people's rights.

The directory contained the upper house and lower house. The lower house had ideas or proposals to share with the upper house. The upper house was able to accept or decline the ideas that the lower house had. Napoleon tried the unity Europe under French rule. After ruling Europe he tried to put his family that were not from Europe in control. The Napoleonic code was the authority of men and all male citizens were equal under the law. Slavery was reintroduced and laws were applied towards other Napoleonic territories and areas. The political change was the Napoleonic code simplified laws for France. They erased the estate system and allowed freedom for religion. Also people gained a better relation with the pope and increase in education. The legacy that was left behind was France domination over Europe. He was able to installed his own rulers of conquered nations.
