I believe the author intends to shed a negative light on the CCP and it's oppressive institutions. They replace words like "patriot" with words like "anti-democracy" while also highlighting the magnitude of this corruption. 

Interpretive:
Following examples of institutional, oppressive current events, I can link Chinese oppressive institutions to other common institutions such as lack of freedom of speech, lack of democracy, influencing outcomes of elections, wrongful imprisonment, etc. Because in order to have democracy there must be freedom of speech, imprisonment of protestors might be the most jarring, yet connected to US current events. 

Theoretical:
In the cited quote, the interviewee expressed their disappointment in the “greater government institution” in reflection of the lack of voter and citizen representation. This is direct institutionalized oppression because it is in the context of voter suppression by the legislative institution of government.

Applied:
The most predominant I is internalized oppression due to the role of government legislature as an establishment that categorizes itself above the rest of the general population and passes institutions in order to suppress them. Ideological oppression is represented and builds to institutionalized oppression because government feels such superiority to a democratic party, that they turn this ideology into anti-democracy institutions.
