Lebanon made minimal advancement despite the worst forms of child labor that can be found there in 2020. The Internal Security Forces reported incidents, one for social violence and child labor and a separate training for junior officers. Children in Lebanon are subjected to the worst forms of child labor, including in construction and in forced labor in agriculture, at times as a result of human trafficking. Children also engage in child labor in the production of potatoes and tobacco. Although they have created laws to prevent these forms of slavery, they do not meet international standards as there is no legislative provision that provides criminal penalties for forced labor, and debt bondage is not criminally prohibited. Additionally, the Ministry of Labor’s budget was unable to cover equipment, personnel, and transportation costs to conduct inspections. In addition, the labor inspectors do not have the authority to inspect informal workplaces, which is usually the place where child labor occurs most in, and programs targeting child labor remained insufficient to fully address the extent of the problem, further concluding that there is minimal advancement.

Some of the ideas our group has thought of to prevent modern human slavery is to enforce laws that are against slavery. (You can refer to these examples by clicking on the map.) This can be done by encouraging more police action to acknowledge victims of enslavement and invest more money into investigations of suspicious forms of labor. Another action people can take is raising awareness. This modern-day society provides us with technology which gives us better access to spreading information through social media. The platform can raise not only awareness but also money at times, therefore making this action suitable and doable for a lot of people. Donating to nonprofits and acknowledging them as large catalysts to getting rid of modern slavery will also help each country’s individual Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) against modern slavery, as these NGOs can cooperate with government agencies to provide support for victims and give financial incentives for people to stop modern slavery. Additionally, we can help prevent modern human slavery by researching about the brands and the shops we usually go to check whether they are making their products safely to fight slavey. For example, one of the most famous chocolate brands Cadbury has partnered with Fairtrade International to show that their products are safely made without any kind of enslavement. So other than buying chocolate from a brand where we don’t know if their products are made safely, it is better to buy it from companies that show that they are contributing to prevent modern human slavey.
