Early Education and Primary School

In Poland, education often begins with preschool for children aged 3 to 6. While preschool attendance is optional, there's a mandatory preparatory year, known as "klas zero" or "zerówka," for 6-year-olds.

Primary School (Ages 7-15)

Primary school spans 8 years for children aged 7 to 15, covering essential subjects such as Polish, mathematics, natural sciences, foreign languages, and physical education.

The "Egzamin ósmoklasisty" is a test in Poland that you must take at the end of primary school. It doesn't determine if you finish primary school, but it can affect where you go next

In General High School (Liceum), which spans four years, students explore various subjects, including math, languages, and humanities, getting them prepared for university.

Technical School (Technikum), a four-year program, delves into practical and technical aspects, providing hands-on skills applicable to specific professions.

Vocational School (Szkoły Branżowe), with durations of 3+2 years, focuses on imparting practical skills tailored to particular trades, offering a quicker path to entering the workforce.

After that:

You can choose different paths for further education. Universities offer a variety of subjects and usually take around 3-4 years to complete. Completing this period earns you a bachelor's degree. If you wish, you can continue studying for a master's degree.

There are also vocational schools (Szkół Policealne) that focus on practical skills. These schools last from 1 to 2.5 years, and you take exams to prove your skills in a specific job.

Hello, my name is Ela. I'm from Poland and I live in Wrocław. I'm a graduate of pedagogy at the University of Wrocław. I have been working with young people for over 10 years, currently at the Liceum Służb Mundurowych. I'm the vice principal and school pedagogue there. In my free time I like to travel, especially to the mountains. I like hiking, reading paper books, spending time with my family and also like lemon cake.

I work as a mathematics teacher and vice-principal (15 years in primary school and 8 years in high school).

I have worked for 17 years in school and educational publishing in managerial positions.

I have been living in Wrocław for 40 years. Wrocław is a beautiful historic city situated along the Oder River - it is the capital of Lower Silesia and a very good place to live.
