(Similar to what is stated in the checklist)
Based on Drama programme in P2, story-telling competititon, talent-spotted based on performance in class and some students volunteered. Teacher also encourages students to participate and nominated a few to participate.
Talent spotting for PESA competitions, emcee-ing opportunities for prize-presentation.
Talent development programme in school for a niche programme: Story-telling, story-starters
Debate school-wide programme helps to identify students are very confident and can share their ideas confidently. Students host open-houses.

(b) How have you used the Verbal Talent checklist to identify talents? (e.g. in full or partial? for what purpose?)
Not a formal checklist used.

(c) If you have not used self and/or parent nominations, why? When would you consider using them?
We do have self-nominations as students tend to volunteer. Giving students opportunities when they are interested. Some parents have approached to enquire about GEP. P2 parents have asked about nominating their own child for Story-Telling.

(d) What questions do you have about talent spotting?
Is it necessary to use a formal, tangible checklist? As teachers on the ground, we see students daily and we are able to spot talent.

Use of the Stop at Two Posters

Elaine, Just sharing. I used those posters with my students when we did What Sallamah Didn't Know. This year too. It was very powerful. We found a story of three sisters, 2 of which were given away and reunited when they were older. All happened to live near our school as attached. Upon showing my students the Stop at Two posters, we analysed the message that the posters tried to put across. Girls are fabulous children. Two girls together - look happy. When there are three kids in a cramped house, a boy will be included to show that to get a boy, all will have less and will look miserable. Most times students baulked at the idea that there is such discrimination against girls. We also tied this idea to ancient civilisations that we have learnt in P6 SS syllabus and how they were mainly male dominated. Then we derived a perspective to why that was the reason. What was needed then - strength to build. This archaic perception went on through the generations. And we also discussed how perceptions have changed over the years. I am sad that this reader is to go too. Very powerful stories. Including how Sallamah said she did not want to be called Rubbish bin Sallamah. And how this is linked to how parents explained why kids came from in the past. :D
