Time management is a key skill have because you need to be able to control and make time for everything so that your timetable is all organised and not just doing thing when and where you can. It’s also about prioritising what is needed the most and least. Having a good time management can lead to you feeling good about yourself, give you more time to do other things and you can get organised and have control over what your doing. However having a poor time management can also lead to stress, frustration, and burnout, which can harm the team's well-being and performance.

Warming up is a key skill because there can be many dangers that you can get from not warming your body up with it being your voice for singing or body for dancing. If you don’t warm up your voice you can strain it and take yourself out of singing for a few weeks or sometimes months. If you do warm up your voice you will see that it feels easier to sing and you can hit the higher notes in songs. When you don’t warm up your body before dancing you could risk pulling a muscle, straining or stretching a muscle and just overall injuring yourself. However when you warm yourself up before dancing you can dance more freely without feeling stiff or pain anywhere.

Team work is vital for the success of a show, as this will eventually lead to having the best show because your working as a team not as individuals. Not working together can be a major issue for everyone because if you don’t work with others well then no one will want to work with you. For example if we were giving a section of a dance and one person in the group couldn’t get the moves right instead of seeing them struggle pull them aside and ask if they need help with it, this then shows you can work as a team instead of just letting them struggle.

My name is Cady Godfrey Barraclough I am currently studying musical theatre at Wakefield College. I stared dancing at a young age of two and since then I haven’t really stopped I’ve been dancing everyday since and I’ve come a long way since that first ballet class. I started taking interest in musical theatre when I went to watch my first musical being cats and it caught my attention straight away and from then I knew that wanted to do something like that. In I then auditioned for CAPA Juniors which is a performing arts high school and I went thee for the whole 5 years and ended up coming out with good GCSE results I shocked myself with how high I actually scored. Now I study at mechanics college doing level 3 musical theatre.

Some of my revue shows include “In” from Carrie the musical, “run run Rudolph” and “I need a hero”. And in 2023 I was part of the ensemble for the production of “Godspell” that we did at college which was a childlike pantomime. I was also an ensemble member for a production I did of “Oliver” in 2015 with my theatre group. I then did the show again and was casted as Nancy in 2021 this was one of the biggest roles I did.

I would say that my strengths definitely lay in my dance skills because I feel as if I’m a strong dancer as when I’m giving some steps to do i normally get them pretty fast compared to some other people and I will always help anyone that’s struggling with the steps. My second strongest point is singing as it’s something I started after my dancing and I do sometimes struggle with a few of the harmony work but I then pick it up after a few times. My weakness is my acting as it’s one of the least worked on out of the 3 key things for musical theatre, I feel as if I could work more on my acting skills I could improve them.

For my chosen skill I picked ensemble work because it has such an important role especially for something as good as “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie”.

For the show everything went as good as it could be doing the research before we started the show was a good idea, because when it came to starting, I already had a basic idea of what the show was about, and what the roles were. During the rehearsal process, we got to know more about each character each week and we had a massive role as the ensemble because we had to know where to go what to do so that the main characters didn’t mess up. When we first got told about the show, we got told that we had to a full commitment and dedication to the rehearsal because if not then we will be cut out of the show and have to do something completely different for our end of year assessment. For me, personally, I missed a few rehearsal due to being ill but for those lessons that I missed a new bit of choreography or vocals I was asking people to send me videos of what we had done that day and practice them while I was out there so that I didn’t really miss a lesson. I knew what I was doing when I came back and I didn’t look out of place . When it got to show night, there was a few ups and downs, but it was an amazing show at the end of the day and we performed it the best we could each and every night. For me, my personal strengths were that every night I performed a piece differently than the night before to make. It seem more interesting, but I didn’t overdo it to distract, or steal the performance of the main characters and I sung the best that I could every night and kept my harmony that we was allocated in rehearsal week. My weakness was that in one of the shows i got accidentally punched in the mouth and it bust open and it put me off the dance and I forgot part of it and messed up a little bit after that too. I unfortunately had to come off the stage because of my ankle injury so that i didn’t damaged it again doing one of the dances. For future performances, I am going to try not get injured as much and I’m also going to start putting myself out there and audition for a main role in hopes that I can get it and work my absolute hardest for an improvement even if something does go wrong, I can’t let it distract me from the rest of the show.

For this performance, the style is very modern with a very commercial/ street style of dance to it too which is a more popular style of dance with the current younger audiences in the modern day which is when this show was set. And so, for this performance, we need adequate knowledge on the modern time, and age group. The characters of most of the cast are 15–16-year-olds, this is figured out due to the context clues as there is frequent references from miss hedge saying “exams,” which is referring to the end of year exams at high school in the UK, otherwise known as GCSEs. This musical “is not a period piece, so in that way it’s even more important, as modern Britain can see a reflection of itself in this modern British musical.” (Worrall, E, 2019), this is particularly important as it promotes diversity and equality, following the story of a young gay boy, who aspires to be a drag queen, and his best friend who is a Muslim girl and is outcasted due to her smarts. The musical “Everybody's Talking About Jamie” is known as a “LGBT+-positive, celebration of a musical” (Worrall, E, 2019), that “encourages its audiences to speak out for what they believe in.” (Thomas, S. 2023)

My chosen skill is very key in a performance such as “everybody’s talking about Jamie” because most of the scenes include having the ensemble and my chosen skill is ensemble work so having research about what ensemble work really is it’s given me a brief idea of how I can put my chosen skill into work during the process of building the show. Like putting props onto the stage or taken them off the stage stuff like this is really key for a performance. “Ensemble working - when a whole team works together on the same thing, at the same time, in the same space, on the same computer. You call it Ensemble Programming when you’re working on a programming task, and Ensemble Testing when it’s a testing task.”

https://sammancoaching.org/reference/ensemble_definition.html#:~:text=Ensemble%20working%20%2D%20when%20a%20whole,when%20it's%20a%20testing%20task.
