CHARACTER:- The principle character of the short story entitled "The Leopard" written by Ruskin Bond is a wild leopard who was found lurking in the forests near Mussorie by the writer. The leopard can be identified by its dry rasping cough,sinewy orange gold skin,bright eyes and its strong feline odour. 

THEME:-
The short story "The Leopard" has an environmental background behind it. The underlying theme of the story throws light on how animal habitats are constantly being encroached upon by various man-made activities and how human beings are killing animals for their own personal benefits. In this manner,many species are getting endangered which also includes the Indian feline-Leopard. In the story, the leopard has been described as a helpless animal which had been forced to come out of its habitat in search of food and in this process it gets killed by the poachers.Human beings have been showed to have two different sides.
