• Task:  Start by clearly stating what you want the AI to do. Are you asking it to summarize, brainstorm, explain, compare, or generate something? Be specific about the action.

  • Example: Summarize the main argument in this article about climate change.

• Role: Assign a role to the AI to shape the tone or perspective of the response. This helps the AI tailor its answer to your needs.

  • Example: Act as a career advisor and suggest internship ideas for a psychology major in Columbus, OH

• Audience: Mention who the response is for. This helps the AI adjust the complexity, style, and vocabulary

  • Example: Explain quantum computing to a high school student with no background in physics

• Create: Tell the AI what kind of output you want it to produce—an outline, a list, a paragraph, a script, a table, etc.

  • Example: Create a bulleted list of pros and cons for remote work  

• Intent: Clarify your goal, what are you trying to achieve with your response?

  • Example: I need this list to help me prepare for a class debate
