El número de declaraciones de voluntad necesarias, es decir, si solo una parte expresa su voluntad o si hay dos personas implicadas, depende de si la acción jurídica es unilateral o bilateral. En el caso de los acuerdos de compra o alquiler, por ejemplo, siempre hay dos personas involucradas: Una parte presenta una oferta, la otra parte la acepta. En tal caso, ambas partes deben expresar efectivamente su voluntad. Pero es importante tener en cuenta que no toda expresión de voluntad es adecuada para ser considerada efectiva y por supuesto, cada parte tiene un interés distinto a la otra persona sobre el contrato.
