Ans: Origin of the street name came from a large number of Indian money lenders (Chettiars) living there. There were very few banks then and banks would not loan money unless they were satisfied the borrower was a well-established company. Therefore the small traders used to go to Chettiars to lend money. Thus, the origin of the street name came from the Indian money lenders living there.
3. What is the significance behind the naming of the street?
Ans: The significance behind naming the street is that it helps to establish that Market Street is for money lending.
