1. Find a few things around your house made of wood and plastic

2. Draw a Venn diagram (an adult may need to help you). Write "Wood" in one circle and "Plastic" in the other.

3. Sort your items into the diagram based on what they are made of.

4. Think or talk about...

   • What is the same about wood and plastic?

   • What is different about wood and plastic?

   • Extra for experts: Why do you think some things are made from wood, and others from plastic?

Look at the picture and think about who is in it, where they are, and what might happen next.

Write a short story about the characters and what they do. Remember the elements of a narrative:

-Characters (Who is in your story?)

-Setting (Where does the story take place?)

-Events (What happens in the story?)

-Conclusion (How does the story end?)

Draw a picture to show part of your story if you want!

Next week, we will be designing our classroom door. Our theme will be Changemakers. As Grade One students were looking at human impact in our previous UOI unit, we have decided to link this competition to the ocean habitat. Can you make some ocean animals out of recyclable materials to bring to school and add to our door?
