since the ending of the civil war it has been quite difficult. It is hard in the sharecropping business, and it does not help that I am a black man in a white mans world. I am hoping to save up all of my owning for a eventual place of my own. I know it will be hard to not wast my earnings on things that I want apposed to the things I need. But that is what I will have to do in order to save my earnings in a efficient manner. I have worked long hard hours today and should probably get to bed, especially if I have to work just as hard tomorrow.

Jourdon's master had lived in Tennessee and Jourdon after receiving a letter from his previous master wrote back. Though some parts of his letter may make you laugh a little, this is a actual persons thoughts in a letter sent to his master. This shows that the progress of civil rights during reconstruction were effective.

In the end, Reconstruction helped the country get back on track. Not everything went back to normal; the things that changed did so for the better. One thing that changed for the better was the fact that the Thirteenth Amendment freed the slaves. So even though Reconstruction may have taken several years.
