         <description><![CDATA[<div>Most islands in the Bahamas are flat with low rocky ridges and are surrounded by coral reefs and clear, shallow water. June through September are the hottest months of the year with an average temperature of 88℉.&nbsp; Summer is the rainy season, with the northern islands usually receiving more rainfall. The highest point in the Bahamas is Mount Alvernia with an elevation of 206 feet above sea level.<br><br><strong>Mount Alvernia is located on Cat Island, with an elevation of  206 ft.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dessert in the Bahamas includes potato bread, coconut and pineapple tarts, guava and coconut pudding, and fresh coconut pie. For a snack, a Bahamian would usually eat Peanut cake (a form of peanut brittle), benne cake (sesame seed candy), or roasted peanuts. The Bahamian diet is rich in flavor and calories.<br><br><strong>Benne cakes are a popular snack in the Bahamas.</strong></div>]]></description>

The type or currency is the Bahamian Dollar (BSD). It has the same value as the US dollar.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Some exports in the Bahamas are crawfish, aragonite, crude salt, and polystyrene products.&nbsp; Imports include machinery and transport equipment, chemicals, mineral fuels, food, and live animals. The exports go to Poland, Cote dIvoire , US , Dominican Republic, and the imports come from US , China&nbsp; Japan , Poland, South Korea, Colombia, Brazil and Singapore.</div><div><br><br><strong>The crawfish that have been caught are being measured, to make sure that they are able to be sold.</strong>&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Some secular holidays celebrated in the Bahamas are Emancipation Day, Discovery Day, and Boxing Day. Emancipation Day (first Monday in August), celebrates the emancipation of slaves. Discovery Day (12 October), remembers the first landfall of Christopher Columbus. Boxing Day (26 December), was granted to slaves the day after Christmas when they were given the boxes left over from their master’s gifts.<br><br><strong>The statue shows broken chains to demonstrate that&nbsp; slaves were freed.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;There are over 2,000 beaches in the Bahamas. The Bahamas has the cleanest water in the world, with visibility of over 200 ft. The island's’ wildlife includes flamingos, parrots, iguanas, and a variety of exotic underwater animals. There are also 120 plant species and 109 breeds of birds. The ratio of flamingos to people on Great Inagua is 61:1<br><br><strong>You can clearly see whats under the water because the water is so clear in the Bahamas.&nbsp;</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The life expectancy for a male in the Bahamas is 69 and for females the life expectancy is 74 years old. The literacy rate for males is 95% and for females it is 97%. Families have access to free public education elementary through secondary school level. Children who go to school wear uniforms, which includes pants for boys, skirts for girls, and white shirts for both.There are not always enough teachers in the Bahamas, so many teachers move there from other Caribbean islands.<br><br><br><strong>The students at school are gathered around their teacher.</strong></div>]]></description>

Farming and fishing are the traditional occupations on the Family Islands. Men who work at Nassau's banks, businesses, and government offices wear business suits; women wear dresses and high heels.On Sundays, everyone wears their best clothing, including suits for men and elaborate hats and brightly colored dresses for women.<br><br><strong>These people are working in a bank and have appropriate attire.&nbsp;</strong></div>]]></description>

Some people view illegal drug trade as a social problem, but others disagree because the drug trade provides income.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Straw Markets are a way to bring home Bahamian culture. Originally, the craft and skills of plaiting, braiding and weaving were useful when Bahamians supported themselves. Baskets were used for carrying fruit and fishing traps.&nbsp; At a straw market, there are handmade hats, baskets, and wood carvings. <br><br><strong>The basket is handmade by people in the Bahamas and is full of colorful straw.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Traditional Bahamian music is still popular today. Goatskin drums, saws, and maracas provide and island rhythm called goombay. Goombay can be traced back to the times of slavery. The Bahamian Quadrille and the Heel and Toe Polka are two dances in the Bahamas. They are danced to rake and scrape music.<br><br><strong>A band in the Bahamas is performing goombay music. </strong></div>]]></description>
