I couldn't agree more with the second question that stated, “Do you feel there is proper support and funding for the program at your school/ in the district?” I agreed when she said that the numbers are growing and the lack of support not following suit. I feel like a lot of people don't understand how many ELLs are coming into our schools and because of this, there's becoming a more lack of support. Educators need to be aware that more people are coming in and if they don't know how to support them then there should be more professional development opportunities in order to help the teachers understand how to support the students in positive ways.

I definitely do not agree with the fact that students should only be placed in a higher class because of their score. So this is not me disagreeing with the expert, it is me disagreeing with what she is disagreeing with as well. As we all know, there is so much more to just a test score. There are so many informal assessments that we can use with ELLs that can show us their communication and knowledge of English.

None of the answers that your ESOL teacher gave were surprising. I asked very similar questions to the ESOL teacher in my school and she seemed to give similar responses. From all of the research and readings that I have done this semester, nothing about her answer surprised me. This being said, it is very important for not so much educators, but a higher level, like maybe the state, to become more aware and knowledgeable on how we can help ELLs.
