How did the Universe form?

Although we don't know for sure how the universe began, many scientists, theorists and physicists agree on the Big Bang theory. The big bang Theory describes the universe as starting off as a little pea sized shape and expanding within a matter of seconds and blew up! "Our universe expanded and many scientists believe that the universe is continuing to do so" (Writer, M. W). It was further stated that it spent half a million years as a hot energy cloud of matter and antimatter, which annihilated itself for the most part, leaving behind only the left over matter. As the universe expanded it led to the release of the elements such as hydrogen and helium which play an important role of how galaxies were formed (Hoag, G).

What makes up the stars and the planets in our solar system?

Our solar system consists of one sun, eight planets and billions of billions of stars. We are part of the milky way galaxy which is one of the many many galaxies in the universe. According to NASA, "Our solar system formed about 4.5 billion years ago from a dense interstellar gas and dust"(Science, N). Once the cloud of dust collapsed it created a solar nebula. Gravity pulled everything to the centre which NASA states is what made up the sun "(70% Hydrogen, 28% Helium and 2% other elements)"(Science, N). Due to the suns gravitational pull on other celestial bodies it led to bits of other elements to bump into each other and clump together which is what formed our planets. NASA explains what the leftovers in our solar system, "The asteroid belt is made of bits and pieces of the early solar system that could never quite come together into a planet. Other smaller leftover pieces became asteroids, comets, meteoroids, and small, irregular moons."(Science, N).

As we learned in class, humans have not been around for long. It''s been proven we did not evolve directly from apes, that is just the Hollywood version. It was a long process of evolution that finally brought us here during the Quaternary (Cenozoic era). We are a very young species and have only been in existence for around 200,000 of Earths 4.6 billion years (Hoag, G).
