This year, for my English civilization lessons, I chose an historical period that I find very fascinating and engaging: the Tudor era. In search of a strategy that would allow me to test my students' skills in the foreign language at the end of the middle school, I thought of getting out of the canons by stimulating their curiosity and suggesting to create imaginary conversations or impossible interviews with the historical characters studied. When the initiative started, someone thought of a dialogue between Henry VIII and Pope Clement VII in relation to their dispute which led to the creation of the Anglican church; others created interviews with Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Richard Burbage (owner of the Globe theatre), Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Tudor (asking for explanations about her nickname "Bloody Mary") and Henry VIII. There were those who thought of interviewing ordinary people of the time to deal with issues such as the prohibition for women about acting in the theatre. Some even decided to put themselves in the shoes of the historical characters of the time by writing letters. Among those ones, Anne Boleyn who reveals the truth about the accusations against her by Henry VIII (accusations that led to her beheading), or Queen Elizabeth who reveals the reason why she didn't marry or, again, Henry VIII who wants to make known his talent for music.
Some products also contain authentic students' audio recordings.
This padlet is the collection of their most original works.
