The way in which children learn in schooling are unique and individualistic. What works for one child can and will not work for another child. The ultimate goal of introducing technology in the classroom is to provide access to learning in a different capacity that may reach children and get them to engage in learning in more meaningful way.  As educators it is important to remember the accessibility to technology that each of the students in our classes may or may not have. Teacher's have the ability to provide access to such technologies and to be advocates for their use in the classroom. Something the teacher also needs to be mindful of is the concept of equity and how that plays out in terms of the types of content the students are engaging with. Is it providing all students the same access to material in the same way? Is it being used as a form of distraction for one set of kids but as creativity for another set? All of these factors play a role into the accessibility of technology to students within a classroom.

There are so many different amazing learning tools that teachers can use through the internet that provide children with the same content but in a more enriching and exciting way. If we get children actively excited about learning they are going to be much more successful throughout the year and throughout their lives. It also offers the ability to reach students who are struggling in certain areas while also challenging thriving students to expand their knowledge through exploration. It transforms a somewhat standard and one-dimensional classroom into one that is life giving and tangible. While it can teach them all about curriculum content that can be found on the internet to better help a child engage with the material it also provides many life lessons about simply using a computer or piece of technology, safety in relation to that use, and lessons about reliability & authenticity. Technology integration with lessons can provide students with opportunity to form new questions about that content that may not have risen if they were not given access to engage with the learning differently. Teaching children about the many opportunities that arise with the use of technology also opens them up to new world of exploration, both good and bad. In the classroom the goal of technology integration is to engage and expand children's learning capabilities not inhibit or isolate them. Sometimes technology can be isolating and so it is important as an educator and a facilitator of the technology use to be intentional about the types of content being explored/integrated. As teachers we should strive for collaboration with peers and use technology as a way to bridge that gap of interaction. There are a lot of negative effects associated with high levels of technology use for extended periods of time and as educators that is not the goal we are trying to teach our students. Sometimes there needs to be conversations about unhealthy technology use and how it differs from healthy use. Sometimes breaks from technology all together can provide a fresh outlook on the learning process. Constant access to technology can present itself negatively in individuals. As a teacher I think it is important to teach and talk about the concept of technology as a whole, which includes the good and the bad sides of it. As a society there are constantly new social media applications that students are using inside and outside of the classroom. I think as an educator it is not only important to have knowledge of these but to also educate/provide education to parents about positive and negative technology applications. I think providing resources and different classroom petitions/rules surrounding positive interaction on technology and what that might look like. There are so many different resources out there for teachers to use that engage all students and require participation in ways that make the students feel safe and heard. Nearpod is one of those platforms that can allow students to participate in a positive way to the lesson anonymously to the class but not to the teacher. This provides a safe space for students to express their thoughts and opinions without feeling called out or humiliated. It also provides a platform where the teacher is saying "your voice matters, we want to hear what you have to say". This type of engagement allows students to be avid thinkers and contributors to learning. We also want to equip students to be smart researchers and know how and where to find reliable sources for information. Built around the idea of getting students to engage in the learning by creating an inviting and open area for them to do so. Making sure all devices can be seen by teacher as walking around.
