Rome Sights Tour

8.6 miles,with options. Start: near St. Peter’s Square or any point. MAP

This is an attempt to put together a tour of some of Rome’s principal sights. Best to do it early before the streets get crowded and to beat the heat. See this as a ‘city tour’, and take your time! The map starts at Ospedale Santo Spirito, right near St. Peter’s Square, or at any point convenient to where you’re staying. The route follows the outskirts of St. Peter’s and Vatican City (without going into it). Then, just off Via Crescenzio is Castel St. Angelo. Cross the Ponte Cavour, over to the Spanish Steps and the Piazza de Spagna. Then, over to the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza Venezia & Piazza St. Marco. Skirt the Capitoline and the Roman Forum by running along Via dei Fori Imperiali to do a tour of the Coloseum, and then through the Circus Maximus.

Shorter option: take a right out of the Circus Maximus and head over to the famous Ponte Palatino. Cross the bridge and return to St. Peter’s along the river path.,
Longer option: takes you through the Trastevere area, near the Passeggiata del Gianicolo, and via Garibaldi back down to the river. Add on even more by going up to Villa Doria Pamphili park.
