Cabeza de Vaca was the first person to step foot in Texas. His ship got blown way off course and he got shipwrecked in Florida. He wrote about all the things he saw in Texas on his way back to the camp. He was tired and hallucinating and he ran into the Jumanoes. The sun shining on the adobe made it look like the houses were made of gold. When he made it back they read his journal and saw that he saw a village with houses made of gold so they went to find it, but they didn't find any gold.

La salle was on his way back to the mississippi river but missed it and landed in Matagorda bay. Him and the survivors didn't have the resources to make it back so instead they made a fort. He named it fort St. Louis after King Louis with the materials they had left. It was a failed settlement and they were always under attack by the Karawankas. Eventually his crew got tired of him and he was a horrible leader so they killed him. they then went North to Canada were they had camps.
